Sirens blared and men shouted.
The last marines on Cairo station were trapped in the control room, red light lit up Private Brian Robertson’s face. Sweat covered his face; he looked around at the marines beside him only 210 had pulled through out of a station of 2thousand. He sighed he looked to the door; it bulged as the Covenant on the other side tried to blast through. Brian heard a Sergeant yell out “Alright marines listen up the Covenant are gunna push through that door soon and when they do it won’t be pretty so we need volunteers that are willing to climb through the air ducts and eliminate the Covenant on the other side” the marines stayed quite and the Sergeant said “No volunteers alright then you, you, you and you front and centre now” Brian got up and looked around and thought ‘Yep were all gunna die’ he walked past wounded and dying marines. He stopped with the group and the Sergeant said “This mission is vital to our survival we got the camera’s up and working for about 10minutes and on the other side were a hunter team, a squad of jackals and grunts, a squad of brutes and 2elites now you going to need some serious fire power” the group nodded and sweated nervously the Sergeant continued “You will be taking our last 2rocket launchers and the weapons you have now” the marines looked at each other and nodded.
Brian was given a launcher and so was the man next to him he shook hands and Brian introduced himself the other man said he was Gordon Harvey. A Captain walked up to the group and said “This ain’t the time for a tea party now take your ammo and get in that air vent and that’s an order” the marines nodded in approval and one by one they took their ammo.
By the time Brian got his ammo the others were in the vent and waiting, he wiped the sweat from his brow and smiled. He climbed into the vent, an explosion rocked the station he closed the vent door behind him. They group had been crawling around on their hands and knees for what seemed like hours. A Mexican man shouted for a rest and the group stopped, the took gulps of water and Brian thought ‘Oh that headache kills’ he yelped as something burnt through his trousers he hit his head on the ceiling and the rest of the group said “Hold still” Brian flinched and kicked until the pain stopped then Gordon said “You feel that the cooling fans must’ve shut down ***” the group sighed and another explosion rocked the station the men crawled on. The group huddled behind a vent door and watched a patrol of Covenant walk past them; they waited until the patrol walked around the corner. The vent door burst open and the group of humans leapt out of the air vent Brian gasped and panted and said “Jesus it’s like an oven in there” the group nodded in approval. They switched on an electronic map and Corporal Ryan said to the group “Alright guys we are here about 500meteres from where we are supposed to be so we better get moving another patrol could walk through at any moment” the group moved into the shadows and walked silently.
The Corporal halted the group he bent down and said to Brian “Alright there’s 2grunts and an elite up there wait until there’s an explosion and lob a frag on their position got it” Brian gave him the thumbs up. Footsteps echoed on the metal floor and an explosion rocked the station once more he held his hand on the clamp. He had pulled the pin and now an elite patrol was walking past he held his breath, there was another explosion.
He threw the grenade and it killed the aliens instantly, Brian leaped out firing his battle rifle wildly killing both the elites, the rest of the marines pulled him back. The group stealthily crept along the walls and continued to their objective. Brian was pinned down behind a barricade; the others were to Brian said to Gordon “Can you guys lay down suppressive fire so I chuck a grenade” Gordon smirked, he rallied the marines to his position and the group threw themselves from the safety of their walls and barricades firing wildly at the Covenant. Brian tossed the grenade and a second later they were covered in alien blood, Gordon hit the deck his armour clanging loudly on the metal floor, Brian and the others picked him up and he wrapped his arm around Brian and said “Put me down now” Brian as confused he replied “But why we can save you” Brian fell to his knees, and Gordon said “Keep going and I will do that again so bloody put me down take the rocket launcher and complete the mission” Gordon coughed and red blood oozed from his mouth Brian did as Gordon said he saluted him and said “You’re a great soldier and a good human” Gordon withdrew his pistol and cocked it and put the barrel in his mouth. Brian and the others walked away, toward the bridge and a loud boom followed and then there was silence.
They moved boxes from in front of the nearest door to the bridge, the door opened they made their way up a set of stairs. The group hid behind the stations train the Corporal had given them the same orders as before fire the launchers when there’s an explosion. The Mexican and Brian hoisted the launchers to their shoulders, and explosion rocked the station and the sound of grinding metal as the lower levels collapsed deafened both parties Brian waisted no time he fired the rocket a second later the Mexican did as well, the group was showered in Blue and purple blood.
They moved to the door and knocked twice, the door slid open to reveal a scene from a horror movie blood coated the walls, there were even more dead and wounded a Lieutenant walked up to group coughing and said
“There isn’t much time the Covenant took Lord Hood from under our noses and killed most of us apparently they have planted a bomb somewhere in the station” Brian shook his head in disbelief and said “How do you know all of this?” The Lieutenant was about to speak when a Captain interrupted him everyone in the group saluted and the Captain said “We saw Lord Hood get taken and we thought to get him back and we know about the bomb because we intercepted a Covenant radio call” Brian was shocked and "said where did they say the bomb is"
The Captain replied "Its on the lower levels why" Brian laughed and said “Well the lower levels are gone they collapsed as we got up here” The Captain wiped some sweat from his forehead and said “Well that’s a big relief” Another explosion rocked the station and Brian said “Corporal lets go get Lord Hood back” the station shook as another explosion happened the group walked out the door.
