The Resistence Chapter 3

Rilly advanced through the thick damp terrain, no idea where he was going. He just had to follow the sound of an advancing warthog in the distance. Unfortunately he was stopped in his tracks by the blue creatures that set out to find the warthog. The creatures pointed their weapons at him, Rilly turned to run but bumped into the creature he knocked out earlier. Once again encircled by the creatures Rilly realised there was no way out this time. He was doomed.
“Go on kill me then” announced Rilly.
To Rilly amazement the creatures relied in the same tongue as his own.
“That is precisely what we plan to do human”
Rilly closed he eyes and waited.
“YEEHAA” Cried Ren as he stormed past in the sergeant’s warthog, knocking down several creatures along the way.
“Quick, hop on sir!” Shouted Ren
Without further ado Rilly jumped up onto the 50 cal mounted on the back of the warthog.
“Shoot the machine!” cried one of the creatures.
“Blast those silly basterds!” Ordered Ren.
**CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG**
Rilly did not let go of the trigger, firing and firing, until the gun started to click.
Ren asked Rilly why he had stoped firing.
“I am all out!” Shouted Rilly “ no more ammo, we gotta get out of here.”
Ren swerved the warthog away from the fight and started to drive away, but still under constant chase from the creatures. Rilly still on the mounted gun, carefully manoeuvred his way into the passenger seat.
“we’ve got no more ammo, what do we do?” Asked Rilly
“You still got that pistol on you?” Asked Ren
Rilly didn’t reply, But just took his pistol from its holster, stuck his arm out, aimed and fired. Ren took a tight turn to the left, which was a verry bad mistake to make, one of the creatures luck was in, it fired and hit Rilly in the shoulder. Immediately, Rillys body went flying forward against the dash board.
“NOOOOOOOOOO!” cried Ren.
Ren, seeing if Rilly was ok reached over to him woth one hand and with the other trying to keep contol of the warthog. He felt his pulse…..Nothing, he was dead. Not looking where he was going Ren lost control of the warthog and he drove down a ditch and crashed.

The Resistence Chapter 4 PART 2 (it all starts here)
-
-
The sun was setting on the city of Nesion, a vast sprawling battle scared city on where its inhabitants have been dead for a few weeks now. Once it had been very grand, with rows of headstones that stretched for miles in each direction, huge family vaults and elaborate marble statues. But over time since it has been under hostile control it had become sadly neglected. Now bird droppings covered its crumbling monuments and broad avenues were overgrown with trees and bushes.
Beneath one of the larger tombs the ground had subsided to leave a cavernous opening and, as the shadows darkened, a figure started to crawl from this hole. Filthy, bedraggled, and half-starved, it looked like an animal creeping stealthily from its lair. But it was Ren.
Ren had bewildered the covenant elites by escaping from the ditch and found shelter. For weeks he had wandered the outskirts of the city looking for somewhere to hide. He had outwitted elites and grunts alike, sleeping in sheds and barns, moving from place to place like a beggar. Finally he had come to the centre of Nesion and he made it his refuge.
Now he scrambled about the ground, searching for something to eat. It was days since food had past his lips and he knew that he would soon be too weak to do anything other than lie down and die. And a voice in his head urged him to do just that. It would be so much easier than to struggle on. But Ren refused to listen.
Near the enterence of the centre was a decaying two-storey house, he had spent the last two days observing it and he had several people come and go, But even if their was an armada of elites within its walls, Ren had decided to brake in.
Inside the building a small group of UNSC marines were debating whether to run from the house and attempt to get away from covenant control or stand and fight, and regain Nesion.
“We must get away from here” continued one of the marines “I have devised a plan the will surely get us out of here safely, here take a look” the marine pulled out a blueprint of the house and a map of Nelsion from his backpack “If we go her----“
The marine was rudely interrupted
“NO! That’s stupid, if we go out there we will shot into smithereens.” said another marine cowardly.
“Argh, shut it Jenkins, you don’t want to do anything apart from sit inside all day and watch teletubbys” exclaimed the other marine in a sarcastic voice.
Everyone laughs.
“You crack me up every time Joe.” Laughed another “remember that time at---“
“ssshh” whispered Jenkins “You hear that?”
It seemed the Rats were getting bolder. Rats were the marines constant companions so the marines kept their weapons close to them just in case some of them decided to turn on them. Silently the marines got up and made their way across the room. They clicked off their guns safety catch then kicked open the kitchen door.
In the middle of the room stood a wild looking teenager maybe 18 tearing at a loaf of bread with his teeth.
“Don’t Move!” shouted Joe.
Ren just stared back at him.

Chapter 5
-
-
“What the heck are you doing here? And what are you doing eating our food?” asked Jenkins.
Ren made no reply.
Suddenly the front door to the house opened and a man’s deep voice called out to the marines.
The marines made no move to answer the door.
“That’s the sergeant” Joe said softly to Ren, he is big and strong and very keen on his work.”
“What do you think he will do if he finds out about you?” Said another marine named Booth.
“I don’t know” Ren replied.
“He will insist that you are terminated and considered a spy.” He told Ren.
“So we are going to give you a choice. You can agree to answer our question and we will see what happens next, or, we can tell the sergeant about you right now and the situation will be out of our hands.” Joe told him
“So which will it be?” asked Booth.
“Hey, if I were you I would---.” Jenkins was cut off by Joe voice.
“Shut it Jenkins”
“So what will it be?”
Ren told them that he would answer their question.
“Good” Booth pointed his rifle towards a door in the corner of the kitchen “Inside”
Ren opened the door and saw it led into a narrow closet lined with shelves from floor to ceiling, he stepped inside and the door was locked behind him.
The groups’ footsteps retreated from the kitchen while Ren waited in darkness, he continued to devour the loaf of bread.
“SIR” shouted all three marines together.
“At ease men, what’s the latest?”
“Well I was trying to tell the guys about my plan to escape through the---.” Joe’s sentence was cut off by a sneeze in the kitchen.
“What’s that marines?”
“Rats sir” Jenkins told him.
“That doesn’t sound like any rats”
The sergeant started to walk off into the kitchen and opened the door and entered the kitchen.
“Who ever you are, come out now! The game is over!”
Another sneeze directed the sergeant’s attention over to the closet. He stuck his hand out to the handle and turned, to his shock he found a teenage boy hiding in darkness eating his bread. He took his hand pulled him out.
“What do you think you are doing here?” The sergeant said shaking him violently by the collar “Answer me!”
Suddenly the sergeant pulled a knife from his pocket and directed it at Ren.
“This is your last chance, What are you doing here?”
Chapter 6
Rilly groaned; lying down, his head was pounding. Loud screeching sounds were coming from no-where. His vision was blurred with green and purple blobs in his eyes, the kind of marks you get in your eyes if you stare at the sun for to long. He started to sit up to take a better look around, but he couldn’t move an inch. He was strapped down on a purple bed hovering in mid air. Suddenly the lights lowered down a bit and a big grey door trimmed purple flashed and opened up in an M shape.
3 blue creatures entered the room, Rilly knew what these were. Elites they called them back home. They were fast, agile, strong, quick thinking, smart, you can tell why people call them elites. They started to come closer and closer. Rilly reached for his pistol but he couldn’t move.
“Ha ha!” Laughed one of them.
“Is this your idea of indie rock and roll?”
The elites look puzzled. Rilly nodded his head towards where the noise was coming from most.
One of the elites made a short swift commanding grunt and the sound stopped.
The elites continued to mutter.
“What am I doing here?” The elites made no reply “eh? Cat got your tongue?”
As soon as the elites came in they were gone.
* * *
“I said tell us what you are doing here?” shouted the sergeant.
Ren was still in shock. The sergeant slapped Ren across the face.
The marines just look on not saying a word.
“How did you get here?”
“It’s not a simple story,” Ren began “to be honest I am not sure I understand it all, myself”
“Perhaps not” the sergeant agreed “But I am sure your story has to start with you being a UNSC pilot?”
“How did you know?” Asked Ren shocked.
“Humph, the uniform gives it away” The sergeant told him.
Realisation dawned on Ren, “you know who I am don’t you?”
The sergeant raised one eyebrow “I’m the one asking the questions!” He declared
Ren was convinced that he was right and felt sufficiently emboldened to tell at least part of his story.
“My name is Ren” he began “I used to be a co-pilot on board a ship called the Odyle”
Ren paused expecting to see a look of excitement to come over the men’s faces, but there was none.
“I didn’t know my parents much, I was---.” Ren was cut off.
“I asked to know how you got here not your life’s story” Complained the sergeant.
“OK, like I was saying, I was aboard the Odyle and then we were under attack. The captain called Recon 2 up to the bridge and I was ordered to go with them and---.” Once again Rilly was interrupted again.
“You know recon 2?” Said all the marines more or less together.
“Then you must know Rilly!” Said Jenkins excitedly.
“Well yes I knew him” Said Rilly
“What do you mean ‘knew’?” Asked Jenkins “no” Jenkins shook his head. “no you’re messing with my head! He can’t be dead”
“I’m sorry, I tried to save him, we were driving away in the warthog when…..I am sorry” Ren continued “Did you know him?”
“Yeh” Said Jenkins “he was my---.”
The door smashed down in the front room.
“they must have followed me all the way here” Said Ren
“Followed? So your telling me we let you in here and you brought them with you?” exclaimed Booth.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t think they would follow me this far!” Apologised Ren
“Quiet marines we will deal with this later, now we fight for our lives!”
Chapter 7
The atmosphere was tight and tense as the marines began to decide what to do to combat the elite’s attack.
“Sarge, we’ve got hostiles at the front and back of the house and a few have broken in and are in the front room.” said Booth.
“How many?” asked the Sarge.
“There are 2 round the back and 3 at the front. Only one broke down the door” Joe told the sergeant.
“I knew this day would come, we are doomed! We’re all going to get fried and cooked for their---.” God dam it marine shut up! Shouted the sergeant
“Booth, Remind me to kick Jenkins out of the corpse when we get back to HQ!” The Sergeant exclaimed
“HQ? There are more of you? Then why are you stuck here?” asked Ren
“Quiet marine”
Marine!? The title somehow all of a sudden made sense to Ren. Being with the sergeant, Booth and the others. Surviving in the city of Nelsion for weeks. Driving away from the elites with Rilly. It all seemed normal to him now; he began to except that he was now a member of The Resistance.
Rilly replied with a short sharp obedient “YES, SIR”
“Here’s the plan, we are not going to be able to survive here. We need to get away. Jenkins, take Ren down the passage and escape through the sewers. It will take you 2 miles south. We will meet up at LZ 17 at 17:00.”
“YES SIR” announced Ren and Jenkins together.
“Booth, Joe. We are staying here to buy those two time, we will follow later and catch up via the track to the east.” The sergeant told them.
“That’s all, Time to move out"
“YES SIR” all the marines said together.
“Please call me Matt, for once I think we can forget the formalities, this may be the last time we meet and I don’t want to be remembered as the boring sergeant” Said Matt
“Sir, you were never boring, you were always true in my mind” Joe told the sergeant
The rest of marines nodded in agreement.
Ren thought to himself. Matt, I know that name from somewhere. Then it clicked, sergeant Matt from recon 2! No wonder Matt knew who Ren was when Ren was telling his story.
“Hey sergeant, I mean Matt! Weren’t you the sergeant in re---.”
**CRASH**
The door to the kitchen came crashing down, Clambering through the wreckage game 2 elites but these weren’t blue they were red.
“Joe, the smoker!” Exclaimed Matt.
The room filled with a dusky grey smoke.
“Jenkins, Go!” Commanded Matt
Without a reply Jenkins, grabbing his rifle grabbed Ren by the arm and swiftly ran across the room and opened the little cupboard door that Ren was previously put in before. Stepping inside Ren wondered why they were going to hide in a little cupboard. Unknown to Ren it led to a small passage that led into the sewers. Ren was to involved in tearing the loaf of bread apart in his mouth before to notice it. Advancing down the sewers Ren could still hear the sound of gunfire from the house.
Jenkins noticed this and told him “Don’t worry they have been in worse situations than this!”
This didn’t make Ren feel any better. But he set it aside and carried on down the sewers.
Chapter 8
Rilly sat in the corner of the small room, alone, away from the rest of the men. Slouched against the wall, eyes closed. He felt insecure, cameras everywhere but he managed to find a corner where the cameras couldn’t see him. For days the same routine has been going on. Sleep, eat, torture then in this room. Some of the men called it “now time” because right now this second you were free as a bird but as soon as that siren rings you are right back in the torture room. Suddenly one of the men started to walk towards him from the other side of the room. He sat down beside him and started to talk.
“How long have you been here for then?”
Rilly didn’t reply. He wanted to get out of here and he knew the best way to do that was not to get anyone else involved and keep his head down.
“The quiet type hey?”
Still Rilly didn’t reply.
“Hey!” The man looked around the room before carrying on. “You’re Rilly, right?”
Suddenly Rilly’s eyes opened and he looked at the man and grabbed his collar violently and pulled him towards his face.
“How the hell do you know my name?”
The man didn’t say a word, frozen in shock from Rilly’s violent behaviour.
“Speak to me, talk!” shouted Rilly at the top of his voice.
Instantly everyone in the room turned and looked towards Rilly.
“Alright, calm down I’ll talk” Claimed the man.
Rilly looked at him in suspicion then let him go. Gasping, the man started to talk.
“There’s word going round the place that your---.” The man’s voice was cut off by the sound of the siren.
Six silver elites with diamond shaped masks appeared in the middle of the room emerging from an orange barrier around them. The elites began to talk in human, but it was a novice’s attempt.
“Cells, Back to” They started to say.
The man got up from sitting next to Rilly and very quickly Ran towards the door to exit the room towards his cell without another word. Rilly wondered why he was making such hast, never the less Rilly followed and caught up with the man and asked him why he was moving so fast to get out of the room.
“Look behind you.” He said.
Rilly paused in the doorway and looked behind him. Two men were making a stand against the elites.
“Now, move” said one of the elites.
“No” said one of the men in a confident voice. “You treat us like trash, push us around and then torture us just to---.” A flash of plasma came from one of the elites gun.
“Cease to exist you do, HaHa” Laughed one of the elites.
Another elite started towards the other man. Grabbing his shirt he threw him against the wall and bashed him around the room like a rag doll. Shocked Rilly continued to stare in dismay.
“Oh my god.” He said to himself.
One of the elites heard him, turning he faced Rilly and started to walk towards him. Rilly, knowing if he just stood their and let the elite get him he would end up like the other men. So, he swiftly turned around, left the doorway and continued down the hall towards his cell.
“That’s why I rushed to get out of the room” Said the man in a powerful voice as they walked down the hall.
Chapter 9
Ren walked down the sewer passage, Up to his waist in water he might as well have been swimming. Ren could have sworn he saw a 3 eyed purple fish earlier; this water could not be good for him. The stench was horrendous. Times like this he wished he was still at home cleaning out the dog poo from the garden. Visually, everything was ok. Lights were in rows down the sides of the wall but every so often he would see one that was broken.
Jenkins didn’t talk much; he just clutched his assault rifle, looked in front of him and kept walking. Ren stared at the water. It was bright green, and the odd brown floater along the way. Ren raised his head, opened his mouth to start to talk. But decided against it knowing Jenkins was still upset about Rilly. Jenkins noticed this and realised Ren was bored. He knew that he couldn’t keep his feelings to himself, and he knew that Ren must have known Rilly quiet well. So he started to talk.
“Rilly was a good friend” He started to say “I remember once when I was little, in school. Class 4b is was. I was never friends with the teachers. I was a rebel, the one who stood up to the teacher and said work was stupid. Basically I was the class clown.” Claimed Jenkins
Ren was shocked, Jenkins a rebel? But, Jenkins was quiet and hated war and violence. “But I won.” Continued Jenkins “the teachers left school and we got out of work for weeks. I thought I was getting respect from my school friends. But I turned out they were not my friends. I was walking home from school to get the bus. As normal I would wait at the bus stop on my own, everyone else walked home. The bus would eventually come. I would step on the bus. The driver would greet me with a “Hi Tom”. But this time I saw one of my school friends on the bus. I quickly ran over to them full of excitement but they completely ignored me. Why? I wondered. So I walked over to an empty seat and sat down. The bus drove along. It went past Breeny Street, Up Kenny alley when I heard my school ‘friends’ in front of me talking.”
“School was awesome today”
“Ye, I know. Mr Cook is finally leaving”
“Humph, I never liked him. Although, Mrs Keaney was ok. I mean, Tom can get rid off the bad teachers but Mrs Keaney was nice.”
“Do you actually like that Tom?
“Nar, he’s a weirdo, He might get us out of work but I don’t want to mingle with him.
“Really? What happened next?”
Jenkins continued “Well I sat their in my seat, shocked in what I heard. I thought people liked me but it turns out they didn’t. I started to cry, it was embarrassing but I just had to let it out. The kids in front of me heard me crying, turned and laughed. But one person came over to me and comforted me. His name was Rilly, my age. He had long brown punkish style hair. He taught me how life is good not being a rebel. So I took it on board and changed my life. Even though my classmates called me a spoff I didn’t let it get to me. They started to call me by my second name. Jenkins, they called me. They thought it sounded like a cowards name and a geek. I thought joining the army would give me a new life, so I joined up and Rilly came with me. But even in the corpse I got abuse. ‘shut it Jenkins, all you want to do is sit inside all day and watch teletubbys’ Joe thought it was funny. Even though my life was a whole failure Rilly was always there for me and I was there for him........... But now he is gone, I don’t know what to do.”
“Didn’t you have any other friends that could help you?” Ren went quiet then added “Tom?”
Jenkins smiled then continued, “no, but there was one of my classmates that was kind of weird. His name was Jamie. One minute he was bullying me but then once everyone else had gone he was my friend. It was weird. I wonder where Jamie has got in life now.”
“That’s bad……I……I don’t know what to say.” Muttered Ren
“You don’t have to say anyt---.”
“Shhhhhh, do you hear that?” Asked Ren
At first Tom looked at Ren with a frown for interrupting him. But he soon realised that Ren was being serious. He could hear the swishing of water coming from behind him.
“Ye, I hear it” added Tom
“It’s coming from behind us---.”
A blow to the back of the head sent Ren falling into the water.
“Ren” Shouted Tom
He swiftly turned around but soon followed Ren hitting the water face first.
**BLACKOUT**
Chapter 10
Bored, lonely, Rilly sat in his usual corner of the room, dreaming of the day that he would escape from this retched place. Every day he sat in the same place same time and the same things always happened, nothing new. Nothing ever happened here. It was worse than jail, not that Rilly had ever been there. He began to think of all the good times he had in his life. The first day he went fishing with his father, making cookies with his mother. Then he started to remember all the good times he had in the UNSC, Training as a recruit, advancing to a private. In fact, he even remembered the day when he earned the rank of private. He remembered the thoughts of action, earning respect, advancing through the ranks… But, no, since then he hasn’t changed from the rank of private. He thought maybe it was to do with his uncle being his Commanding officer. The generals had seen it as unfair on other privates if his uncle promoted him. It was seen as bias in a way.
He wished time would speed up and let him be free from the covenants grasp. He wished that Jenkins, Ren, Joe, Booth and the Sarge would just run thought the door now and rescue him. But he knew that would never happen. The elites would never let that happen. He continued to think of the good time, His head facing the floor.
“Go on, get in there.” Violently, an elite pushed 2 people through the doorway.
This didn’t interest Rilly he had seen a lot of people come and go. It was just another day for him.
“Aaawww…Jeez, ever heard of prisoners of war?” One of them asked.
“HaHA, very funny human!” Said an elite slowly and sarcastically.
Then, after that the doors firmly shut behind them.
They paused, looked around the room. They were being started at from all directions.
“Why don’t you take a picture? It’ll last longer!” One announced sarcastically.
“Hey, They friends not enemies Ren.” Said one to the other.
Rilly suddenly raised his head.
“Ren?” Rilly questioned himself.
“They look like they are on drugs, just sat there doing nothing” Said Ren
Rilly chuckled then said “Ye, and you will end up like them if we stay here any longer.”
Ren looked over to the direction of where the voice came from and said “Oh yes and who are you to say---.” He stopped, and saw a man sat in the corner, alone, smiling at them.
“Rilly?” Ren questioned himself. “Rilly!” He repeated but this time with a spark in his voice. He ran over to him, Rilly stood up and they hugged. Rilly didn’t notice Tom just stood there, glaring over towards them. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He got told Rilly was dead, But he was there, stood at the other side of the room.
“Rilly! What happened to you? I thought you got shot!” asked Ren.
“I know I thought I did to. But I woke up here, in this place in this room!” He told Ren
Tom started to walk across the room towards the pair.
“Tom?” asked Rilly.
He didn’t answer, he just nodded and burst into tears. Although he felt stupid crying in the middle of a room, he felt overjoyed at the same time. He thought his best friend was dead; he lost all hope in life. But, now he felt secure, ready to combat this alien invasion.
“We’ve got he get out of here, look I have been planning whilst I have been in my cell. If we are quick we can get to my cell and get out of here.” claimed Rilly.
“OK then lets go and---.” Ren’s voice was cut of by the sound of the siren.
“Come on, we have to go now.” Commanded Rilly.
“Why?” Asked Tom.
“Trust me, just follow me.” He told them.
Rilly led the pair out of the room, through the doorway and down the corridor.
Chapter 11
Rilly led Ren and Tom down the hall wards his cell. The corridors were long and twisting. There were no corners anywhere just curves. The only place Rilly had seen corners of a hall or room was back in the “now time” room. The walls, roof and floor were purple and white, maybe a bit of pink. Tom felt encaged in this hall, no corners to hide behind. No matter where he looked it was purple. Along the corridors, every so often there would be little purple pedestals that created a hologram of some sort of alien in a chair, chanting in foreign, playing back on itself.
“Talk about propaganda.” Ren said to himself.
The group continued down the twisting halls until they came to a big arched doorway. Bright purple Strips covered its front. Then it beeped and opened in an M shape. Rilly advanced through the doorway but Ren and Tom stood in awe of the rooms’ greatness. Bright purple, it must have been at least the height of 7 double deckers and maybe 30 limos wide. Along the walls of the room there was the regular opening that led into a small room. In the middle stood 6 elites on a small platform.
“Come on now, nowt us ant seen before” Came a voice from behind them.
They took the hint and entered the room. Rilly was waving towards them.
“Over here” He shouted
They walk over and met up with him.
“Which one is yours then?” asked Ren
“Over here.” Rilly pointed to the cell behind him.
“Looks comfy.” said Tom sarcastically.
The group walked into the cell. Behind them, a big force field built up behind them. Rilly began to tell the group of his plan to escape.
“Wow! You expect us to do that? There are only 3 of us!” claimed Ren.
“Yes, I know that. But if we get a big band of us together from inside here maybe we can do It.” said Rilly.
“All right then, let’s do it.” Said Tom
“Yeh I am up for it!” Shouted Ren
“So, we ask around the “now time” hall tomorrow?”
Ren and Tom agreed. Then they walked off into their separate cells but then Rilly added,
“Hey, guys, I found these in the covie store cupboard”
He handed them each some sort of communicator.
Rilly told them they will need them when they escape.
Time passed, All 3 of the marines waited in there cells. Silence filled the room. Ren wondered if it was just because of the energy field at the front of the cell. But he was later proved wrong by a sneeze from a fellow marine.
Ren was bored; he fiddled with the communicator and wondered whether to use it. Were they recording their conversations? Thinking about it boggled his brain. Nevertheless he decided to use it.
“Rilly? Rilly can you hear me?” he asked
“Yes, sure what’s the problem Ren?” replied Rilly
“Nothing, I just felt like talking.” Said Ren
“Well I am trying to get some sleep can you like, go away?” Asked Rilly
“Yeh, Yeh, sure.” Ren told him
“Thanks” Rilly put his head down and tried to get some rest.
“Hey, Rilly?” came Ren’s voice from the communicator.
“Yes?” Asked Rilly is a tired voice.
“Nothing” Said Ren. He ended the conversation.
Finally Rilly could get some sleep.
A few minuets passed then a voice popped up on the communicator.
“Rilly?”
“Argh! What now Ren?” Rilly asked in an angry voice.
“Rilly Backster is that you?”
Rilly didn’t recognize the voice.
“Yeh, its me.” Replied Rilly
“Good, Sit tight we are coming in for you.”
