    Ignore

Ok this is my first FF. So there may be a few mistakes here and there so any helpful criticism would be appreciated.  This FF is centered around a new alien race called the Areklecko.  So thanks for reading the first out of 6-7 chapters.

    From Below

    Prologue:

When the union of alien races known as the “Covenant” found and activated the Ark in the sands of Africa, the ancient Forerunner technology buried deep within the earth wasn’t the only thing to be awakened.  Beneath the earth’s crust, in deep, undiscovered caverns, hundreds of once dormant eggs began to hatch and little do we know, a new species is evolving right beneath our feet.  While we recover from almost being exterminated, a new race is preparing to attack, preparing to take back what was once their planet.

    Chapter 1 – First Encounter

Fire Base Alpha, Northeast of London, February 27, 2883, 8:05 A.M.

Mission Objective: Five tourists have gone missing after entering the Ice Cave not far from here.  The only evidence of communication is a garbled radio transmission in which all that could be made out were screams.  Find these tourists and get them to safety.

Sam Conners sat in the back of the over packed albatross that was on route to Fire Base Alpha just a little ways from London. Sam himself was 23 years old, about 6.5 ft tall, HAD brown wavy hair which was now a buzz cut, blue eyes, and an average build.  He regretted leaving for his first real and potential combat mission just 1 day from his own and his wife Karen’s anniversary where he had promised to take her and their kids 7 year old Elliot and 4 year old Amy on a trip to one of the outer colonies.   He found it rather hard to think with the twenty seven other marines that were talking loudly over the albatross’s engines and ignored when someone stumbled into him while walking across the deck.

Upon landing, he was the last to exit and stood just outside the hatch while looking around at the barracks, vehicle depot and the various watch tower position in a large rectangular pattern around the area while holding his hand just above his eyes to accommodate for the bright sun.

“Hey!” a voice called out as another marine came jogging over to him,

“Do you know where we are supposed to meet Sgt. Anderson?”

“No” Sam replied in a quiet tone.  The marine who was still panting introduced himself as James Willerd.  He was a bit shorter than Sam, 22 years old, had dark brown eyes, and a slim build, and his hair also was a buzz cut.  Sam took a guess that they were supposed to go to the command post for briefing so they started walking in its direction.

Upon entering, Sam and James saw several other marines and the sergeant standing at roughly the center of the room,

“Welcome to Xeda squad” Sgt. Anderson said in a loud and stern voice

“For some of you this will be your first combat mission.  Don’t forget your training and you will survive.  Fall out! I expect you all at Pelican echo 612’s landing pad in 5”.

Sam and James walked out with the rest of the squad and just followed the crowd until they came to the landing pad where they waited while the pilots started the pelican’s engines and when the Sarge. Came into view, they all marched on board.

Sam sat closest to the entrance and James sat next to him.  Sam felt a sudden jump when the pelican took off and began to accelerate; another marine leaned forward who was sitting across from Sam,

“Hi Im Frank Jefferson” said the marine “you know what kind of enemies were fighting?” he asked.

“No” Sam replied, Frank was quite large, not fat but just bulky, he had blonde hair which was also a buzz cut, brown eyes, and a scar running from beside his left eye down to his nose.

Once they landed and the nine members of Xeda squad filed out, Sam saw a team of London’s police force waiting for them along with another sergeant leading them; I guess those tourists were their responsibility as well.  Without much talking, both teams entered the cave on two separate paths.  The Ice Cave sure lived up to its name, the walls and ceiling were covered in a thin yet noticeable layer of ice which made the cave look rather majestic as it glistened and sparkled in the sunlight, but all that changed when Xeda squad descended deeper into the dark depths of its many tunnels.  The team followed the lights projected by the flashlights mounted on the barrels of 3 of the marines’ MA6B Assault rifles as they led the way into a large circular room in which the sarge ordered everyone to take up a position at roughly each of the room’s three entrances, one by the entrance, one in the northeastern corner of the room and another which was on an angle in the ceiling where as a marine had to stand at the opposite end of the room in order to get a clear view of it.

Sam positioned himself by the northeaster tunnel and leaned up against the icy wall, Frank stood at the opposite side of the tunnel while James kept watch on the ceiling exit.

The sarge was talking to someone over the comm. and Sam impatiently kept swaying his head back and forth from the entrance of the tunnel he was guarding to the other side of the room.  One time however something caught his attention in the darkness of the tunnel; there were two yellow, glowing “slits” that were elevated about 8 or 9 feet of the ground.  Sam sat up turned his whole body around and stared back at them.  He was about to take a few steps towards them when he felt an overwhelming urge NOT to.  He reconsidered, turned around and called the sarge over.

“What is it private?” Sgt. Anderson said as he strode over,

“uhh sir there’s something in the tunnel here, like eyes or something”

“I don’t see anything son” Anderson replied with a slight hint of irritation.

“What? They’re right….here…they were here” Sam said as he turned in astonishment to find that the “eyes” were gone.

Anderson approached Sam until he was right in his face and his eyes narrowed.

“I’ll keep a look out for these glowing eyes, but until then I have a job to do and so do you.  I don’t want any more BS from you unless it’s something important.  Are we clear?” He growled.

    “Yes sir!” Sam shakily replied.

“Alright team!” Anderson announced “The depth of this cave is screwing with our comm. gear, and I need three volunteers to head up to the surface with me and establish proper communications.  The rest of you are to advance further inside.”

Well now all that was left was Sam, Frank, James, a younger marine named Bill, and a female marine named Ashley.

“Ok” Sam said, “Let’s continue going inside.  Keep a lookout for the tourists and keep your eyes and ears open.  There’s something wrong with this place”.

The team advanced down Sam’s tunnel, they didn’t get far before they found a set of massive footprints, bigger than any grizzly bear or lion that he had ever heard of.  They followed the tracks for a few meters before they found something odd.  Another pair of tracks, however these ones were different, the footprint on the right was that of whatever animal that they had been following earlier and the one on the left was that of a human.  These tracks changed into solid human boot prints before stopping all together at the entrance of a huge, dark cavern.  The team wearily advanced inside, Sam traded Frank for his MA6B and they all advanced in an arrow formation, Sam in front with Frank and Bill in the second and Ashley and James in the rear.  They stuck to following a wall section until they came to the corner where they saw a black and roughly humanoid figure with its back to them, standing in front of a stalagmite.

Bill looked at the rest of the team, shrugged and stepped forward.

“Umm, excuse me sir?” No response so he took another couple of steps

“Sir!? UNSC marine squad, we’re here to rescue you.”  At this point the creature slowly turned around and revealed itself to be…well…not human at all. Easily nine feet tall with two glowing eyes and a large array of fangs extending from the top and bottom of its mouth.  It had dark black skin and very large limbs.

“Holy sh*t!!” Bill exclaimed as he raised his MA6B as did the rest of them.

Standing at a stale mate, the creature took a step towards them, the team twitched and focused their aim in return, then the creature lowered to one knee, its skin rippled and a series of tentacles burst out of its back, its limbs warped and the creature shifted into a more animal like form, standing on four legs with a flurry of tentacles waving around its backside.  Letting out a terrifying roar it began to move towards Sam and his team.

Eyes widened in fear, Sam and the rest of his team all fired in unison at the large monster that didn’t seem all that affected by their erratic gunfire, and when it burst into a sprint, the team turned and ran.

They were almost at the entrance of the large cavern before Bill tripped on a ledge and fell to the ground with a sickening snap as his leg got impaled on a small stalagmite that tore through the bone, Sam stopped and Bill yelled out

“Go!!! I’ll hold it as long as I can”.  Sam turned and ran, then cringed as he heard gunfire then blood curdling screams and the sound of tearing flesh and bone as the monster ripped Bill to pieces.

The rest of them ran as fast as they could through the tunnel then into the room where Sam had seen the eyes…more like its eyes.  Sam heard heavy foot falls, turned and saw the monster barreling down the corridor after him.  Sam took his MA6B in one hand and aimed it blindly behind him and pulled the trigger, a few painful cries could be heard and Sam held the trigger down until he heard a *click* where as he slung his weapon and rounded a corner to the home stretch.  He could see light, but his hopes plummeted when the heave footfalls grew louder.  It was gaining on him.  Ahead of the team, what remained of the London police squad came sprinting out of an adjacent corridor where they to were firing at something further down.

Sam was now but a few feet from the exit and he felt the monster’s hot breath on the back of his neck as it continued to pursue him, he lowered his head, closed his eyes for a few seconds and ran harder and with more determination then he had ever ran before.  He opened his eyes to see Sgt. Anderson and the other half of Xeda squad ready with their weapons leveled at the entrance, Sam burst out into sweet daylight and dove to the ground. He rolled over to see the monster exit the cave, reel backwards in pain as the sunlight hit its skin and it retreated as the sergeant and the rest of Xeda squad opened fire on it as it retreated.

“What the F*ck were those things!?!?” Ashley let out as she dropped her helmet to the ground and paised relentlessly around the pelican.

“Take a breather soldiers” Anderson said “you’ve done well.  We’ll evac. tomorrow morning”.

    Chapter 2 - Devastation

    Area 51 Top secret research/military base, February 28, 2883, 1:15 P.M.

    Mission Objective: None

Sam stood just outside the “Top secret facility” known as Area 51.  The entire outdoor section was under the process of being outfitted with SPI (Semi Powered Infiltration) plates to further keep its secrecy.  From the front, the building looked more like a trapezoid with solid double doors made entirely of titanium alloy while the top section appeared almost entirely of glass and with the hot desert sun, the glass made a harsh glare as Sam had to look away from it.  Xeda squad waited outside until a man walked out, and as soon as Sgt. Anderson and Sam both caught the glimpse of the insignia of an Admiral, they both saluted quickly as did the rest of the team.

“At ease soldiers” the Admiral said as he removed his hat and wiped some sweat from his forehead. “I presume your Xeda squad?”

“Yes sir we are.” Anderson replied.

The admiral took a quick look at them for a second before turning to Anderson

    “Excellent, shall we begin then?”

They walked up to the titanium doors, the admiral typed something on a small keypad and in response an AI known as “Silent Dusk” appeared on the tiny monitor and said in a deep tone,

“Welcome back Admiral Peter Jackson .  Your entrance will be initiated shortly”.  The AI’s avatar appeared as a tall man wearing a dark grey robe with slicked-back oiled hair and sporting dark black sunglasses.

The party stepped into an oval shaped room where Silent Dusk told them not to move while the decontamination process was being conducted, and then a large red laser spanning the entire room swept vertically up and down, then horizontally before they were permitted to leave.

“Sooo, how do we leave?” Frank questioned “I don’t see any doors”

The Admiral Jackson turned his head back and with a faint smile said,

    “Wait and see son.”

Just then the wall at the opposite side of the room began to shimmer and dissolve before completely liquefying.

“Don’t be afraid, just step through”

Sam reluctantly stepped through, then Frank, then Anderson and afterwards the rest of the team was through.

“Nano-walls.  You gotta love em’ after awhile” Jackson said.

They walked through a series of very well lit corridors that were colored completely white with very smooth, rounded edges lined with holo-monitors and scientists studying various stuff with the occasional pair of point defense turret-cams that were suspended from the ceiling.

They eventually came upon a room labeled “Containment”.  The same security process was initiated and before long they were in.  On a table in the center of the room was a decent sized black raptor like creature that looked similar to the one that Sam and they had encountered in the Ice Cave.

Silent Dusk’s avatar appeared beside the table in life form and began to paise around the room.

“This specimen is one of the monsters that the London Police had reported as “Hordes upon hordes” of these things appeared out of no where.  Traces of egg shells could be found on some of the creature’s extremities as well as a…rather odd genetic gene that we have removed some of.  These genes appear to shapeshift into various other cells, some of which were recognizable to that of a human.  However there are very few of these cells in this form which appears to be the first stage in a life cycle”.

Sam stared at the dead, bullet riddled monster that had been, presumably drained of blood upon entrance to this room.

“Now then” the AI continued “This specimen is very different from the one that private Sam Conners and his team had reported seeing.  We can assume that the one they saw was that of a final stage, thus the cause for it appearing human, this was its shapeshifting skills at work.  As for its painful reaction upon coming in contact with the outside, we can guess that because of its species’ development underground, that their flesh hasn’t developed properly and has little tolerance to sunlight thus restricting its movement.”

The discussion and examination went on for hours before the team finally got airlifted in a private stealth jet, back to base.  They got back at roughly seven P.M. and they were promptly dismissed for dinner.

Sam and Frank were busy tearing into a dinner consisting of steak and potatoes, when James finally came over carrying a huge turkey sandwich with various toppings and was just about to take a bite when a female voice sounded over the intercom “Xeda squad please report to Sgt. Anderson’s Office”

“Ahh Dammit!” James remarked as he placed his sandwich on a plate.

“Calm down.” Frank laughed “Im sure it will be there when you get back.”

Upon entrance Sam could see from the look on Anderson’s face that what they were about to here was not going to be good.

“Marines” Anderson said grimly “Something terrible has happened.  Less than forty minutes ago, Dallas was hit.”

“What do you mean hit!?” Sam exclaimed.

“I mean” Anderson said, standing up “It’s been wiped off the face of the earth.  Those aliens attacked, opened up a hole in the center of the city, and I don’t know how the hell they knew, but they attacked the reactors.  We know those things supply a huge amount of power to a large area.  And we also…”  Anderson paused as he walked to the window behind his desk “That those things are highly unstable.  My point is, those reactors blew.  The entire city was…is destroyed.”

“No!!!” Sam snapped “My family is there! Were there any survivors?! Was there anyone by the name of Karen, Elliot, or Amy?!”

Anderson shook his head slightly, “No.  There were only two hundred and thirty five people that survived, and that was because they were at the edge of the city, they had a head start.”

Sam, devastated and shaking, burst out of the building.

“Private!?” Anderson called “Get back here, what the hell do you think your doing!”

Sam ran out of the office and headed straight for the nearest pelican where he could see the pilot doing a system check of the controls.  He burst on board and yelled,

    “Take me to Dallas, now!”

“Uhhh im sorry sir but im supposed to be leaving to evac. Survivors in fifteen” the pilot said as he turned his head back to the controls, then he heard a clicking sound.

“Do it now!” Sam said as he pointed his M6C pistol at the pilot’s head, tears swelling in his eyes.

“Dude your fricking insane man!” the pilot yelled with a startled expression on his face.

“Im not going to ask you again!!” Sam yelled back.

“Drop the weapon soldier!” Anderson commanded from the troop bay.

Sam turned around to see Anderson with a SMG aimed at his head.

“But sir I have to go back there I…”

Anderson cut him off , “they’re dead soldier, im sorry but its true.  Look, Im sure your wife would have wanted someone to live on. You couldn’t have made a difference anyways, you would have died to.”

“Now drop the weapon and return to the barracks and I’ll forget this happened.  I’ll make the exception because of the current situation.”  Anderson finished.

Sam put it down and slumped off to the barracks where James promptly met him and said,

“Hey man sorry ‘bout you family.”

Sam just brushed past him and collapsed into his bed.

Sub Chapters – Survival and Emergence

    Dallas, February 28, 2883, 9:28 P.M.

Karen Conners was about the same height as Sam, 24 years old, brown hair that reached down just a little past her shoulders and bright blue eyes.  She was in the middle of cleaning up dishes after a late supper.  She had come home a little later than usual due to an unexplained yet minor earthquake at the center of the city where she worked as an accountant.  There was only minor damage as a few files were knocked off shelves and the occasional computer had fallen of the desk but nothing serious.

When she put the last of the cutlery away in a glass cabinet she stopped when her eyes met the photo of her husband which was sitting on the counter, she stepped over to it and was just about to pick it up when another tremor hit.  This one was a lot heavier, and then it was followed by a loud rumble.

Karen put the picture down and ran to the living room where Elliot was watching cartoons and Amy was playing with her dolls, Karen looked around until she came to the window where she saw a huge wall of fire and smoke that came streaming across the city.

“Oh my god.” She mumbled  “Elliot! Amy! Down into the basement, now!”

    “Why mommy?” Amy said quietly

“Just do it!” Karen yelled as she hustled both of them down the stairs.  When they were secure, she ran back up the stairs to shut the door when the wall of fire reached her house, accommodated by a deafening roar, and as the doorway as well as the rest of the house collapsed, and an explosion send Karen flying down the stairs.

She slammed into the floor, and as her vision fogged and blurred she heard the sound of shattering glass and one of her kids let out a painful cry, and then everything went black.

Emergence Tunnel at the center of Dallas

The Arekleko warrior Borak‘Vor climbed out of the large tunnel extending from the surface of the indigenous population’s city to the main hollow of his home.  He was quite a bit larger than others who were at this stage of life, although he could walk on two of his legs he preferred all fours as opposed to two, he also had one distinct feature, he had a symbol in a white markings carved into his head just above the eyes.

His two brothers, Voram’Rae and Hrode’Dro emerged a little later, they were almost Borak’s size but they both looked up to him as their personal leader as opposed to the leader of their very species.

Borak’Vor grunted in disgust as the smell of smoke and burning flesh filled his nostrils, but they continued their “survey” anyways.  Their first stop was an odd shaped machine with four wheels that Voram had assumed was a form of transportation, beside it however, still clutched in its charred arms was a metal device that was set at a 90 degree angle with a small trigger at the center.  Borak picked it up and tried to push one of his fingers into a small hole which the trigger had surrounding it.  When he had a firm grip of it, he squeezed it to find a startling crack and a projectile shot out and pinged off of the transportation vehicle.  Borak’Vor continued to squeeze it until he heard a click; he could only assume that the weapon was empty.

They continued their investigation and later found out that the indigenous populations were called “humans”.  The attack on the humans’ power cores had only cost minimal losses as opposed to the loss of one of their major population centers.

The trio continued to explore the rest of the city for the remainder of the night.

:Note: these sub chapters are rather essential to the rest of the story.  So bare with me here.

    Chapter 3 – Recovery

11:30 PM, Earth, UNSC Chemical Research Base“Oldivia”, March 1, 2883, aboard Pelican Echo 612

Mission Objective: Move through the Areklecko overrun base and secure the Vapor Bomb.  Once secured, set the beacon down and hold out until recovery units can be dispatched for evac of Xeda squad and the bomb.

“Alright!” Anderson said as Xeda squad converged inside his office, “Those dam tunnels are appearing all over the world and bingo! We have new intel on our enemies, those aliens are called the Areklecko, it’s a mouthful I know.  Now in detail, those raptors appear to be the first of a lifecycle called Arke.  The second forms which have rarely appeared are called Arekleck, these things hang from ceilings and lunge at their prey often killing them with the sheer impact.  The last stage are called Arelocks, those are those big mother f*ckers that love to shapeshift and tear people limb from limb.”

“Now then, Chemical Research base Oldivia was working on an Acidic Vapor Bomb which will flush out those things into the open and hopefully, also kill a lot of them.  However somehow those monsters learned of this and have overrun the base.  Heres the fun part, get that bomb back.  I have gotten permission from high command to authorize you the use of the elite O.D.S.T. Armor.”  Anderson looked upon his men with determination and faith, and added lastly

    “One more thing, don’t fail.”

Sam and the rest of the squad hustled out of the room and onto the awaiting pelican, Sam took one deep breath and hoped for the best.

Sam sat closest to the entrance of the pelican, and to his left sat Frank, James, and on the opposite side the rest of Xeda squad sat quietly with their heads down and kept relatively to themselves.  Sam shifted a bit from the weight of his ODST armor that had been authorized to his team for this mission.  A mission where there was no room for mistakes.  The new armor specs had been outfitted with low class energy shields and an advanced HUD that had been made similar to that of the MJOLNIR Power armor that had been put out of commission during the human covenant war due to lack of resources and funds.

Sam felt the pelican decelerate as it lowered to the ground and he and the rest of their team attached the silencers and switched the firing mechanism on their battle rifles to “single shot”.  The hatch way opened up and the team drifted out.  They secured the area and looked upon the dark looming facilities of the base and Sam wasn’t too eager to have to traverse through it.  The team used the various sand dunes as cover until they came to a mesh fence where James pulled a small torch from his combat belt and cut a small hole big enough for each of them to fit through.  They were apart of Xeda 1 and Xeda 2 was on route to the objective from the other side of the base, Sam moved forward and surveyed the area.  “All secure, nothing moving” Sam whispered into his comm. “Affirmative” Frank replied as he drifted forward and took cover in front of a guard tower while peering inside to make sure there weren’t any hostiles waiting to ambush him, “clear” he said again, then the rest of the team moved inside a supply warehouse a little northeast of the tower.

They stood at the entrance for a minute until James waved them forward from inside the building.  The team took cover behind a warthog and a few stacked up wire spools beside it, then the warthog shifted a little.  Sam gestured for James to take position at a forward location to assess the threat.  James moved behind a supply crate and notified the rest of the team of a confirmed hostile.  Sam and Frank switched to their thermal settings on their visors and sure enough, there was a warm spot just in front of the warthog that was slowly moving to the right side of the machine.  Frank moved out from cover towards another supply crate just seconds after the small creature moved around the side.  The thing was an Arke variant, it had 2 legs, large fangs, and Sam had seen them hunt and move like raptors after their prey.  Apart from this, these forms were also the loudest, often letting out high pitched shrieks to alert its allies to the presence of enemies.  It needed to be dealt with.

The beast moved slowly between the crate that Frank was positioned by and the drivers side of the warthog and just as it cleared the crate, Frank lunged out with a primed combat knife, jammed it into the creature’s neck then pulled hard in his direction, and there was a short but sudden burst of blood then the creature fell to the floor dead.  Sam, who was still behind the warthog and the wire spools, had a clear site of the double doors at the north end of the building and he motioned for Frank to open them.  Frank moved forward and pulled one of the doors open then he quickly retreated to the corner of the open door and the wall, and as Sam looked up, he saw what had make him retreat.  A very large Arelock form was slowly making its way into the building and Sam saw Frank power down his shields, visor and pointed his battle rifle upwards so that the red lighting projected by the scope wouldn’t give away his position.  The beast moved slowly into the building, sweeping its head back and forth, looking for whatever had opened the door and as it rounded the corner that Frank was huddled in, it stopped, swept its head around and was looking right at him.  However it either didn’t see him, or its eyes hadn’t developed yet, but that didn’t stop the beast from patrolling the rest of the room.

Sam saw it begin to make its way towards the dead Arke on the ground, and knowing that his position would be compromised, he quietly crawled underneath the warthog and watched as it approached and inspected the body of its comrade while letting out a slow, quiet growl.  However the real threat was the fact that it had lowered its tail to the ground and was carelessly swishing it back and forth, THIS would get him detected in a split second.  He quietly rolled onto his back, lifted his feet up and rapped them around the warthog’s muffler while grabbing onto parts of the machine’s underbelly and hoisting himself up off the ground.  Thanks to his instincts, the creature DID swish its tail underneath the warthog while it turned to exit the building through the same entrance that Xeda squad had entered in.

Sam waited until it cleared the door then he dropped down and rolled out from under the vehicle and as well, the rest of the team revealed their positions, gave a sigh of relief and exited the warehouse.

While moving through the outdoors complex, they found their initial route blocked by a downed water tower which made them take a detour through the cafeteria complex.  Upon entering the team saw a horrifying site, large pools of blood and the mangled and shredded remains of the base’s military and research division laid strewn across the floor.  Sam led them past the hastily erected barricade consisting of a few overturned tables that had been ripped through easily while held his breath as the smell of decaying flesh and rotten food filled his nostrils.  Thankfully the room was a small cylindered room which meant that they didn’t have to endure the place for long.

Upon exit, they found what they were looking for, the Vapor bomb was sitting just outside a motor pool, Sam set down and activated the beacon which gave off a red smoke trail.  “Great.  Not only will it get the attention of the pick up units but every one of those F*ckin things will see this as well” Sam said.  “Alright everyone, Take up a position and prepare for an attack!”  James climbed up a ladder on top of the motor pool, unslung his sniper rifle and waited while Sam and Frank took up inside the motor pool, behind a forklift that propped open the half closed door way, and waited.  The first to arrive were a team of 6 Arke forms that came to investigate, they sniffed the beacon and shuffled amongst themselves while James waited for the perfect shot.  This came in the form of three of the creatures that thought it necessary to stand in a near perfect row while James pulled the trigger, which sent 3 fountains of blood shooting up into the air then he heard 4 silent puffs, and the other 3 were down.

“Sh*t nice shot man!” Frank said through the comm. “Now I hope you can pull twelve more of those shots out of your As*, as Im picking up twelve LARGE targets coming from the northwestern research complex”.  James looked to see what he was talking about and saw the door coming from the research center begin to bulge, buckle, sag, then get ripped from its hinges as twelve Arelock forms burst forward towards the bomb.  James didn’t know why but he started shaking and found himself terrified of the incoming monsters after seeing what they did to those people in the cafeteria.  His hands shook as he tried to align a shot and he fired only to have the round tear through one of the creature’s cheek muscles, exit, and lodge itself into its leg however that didn’t seem to slow it down at all.

Sam and Frank burst from cover, switched their battle rifle’s firing mechanism to “burst” and begin to unload on the incoming aliens.

James saw the spotlights of the incoming drop ships that touched down to attach the bomb to its underbelly, while he jumped down the ladder and made a run for the pelican.

The hatch way of Echo 612 opened up and he saw the rest of Xeda 2 sitting near the back, as he, Sam and Frank leapt on board as the hatch closed.

Sam felt the pelican begin to accelerate then the pilot said over the comm. “uhh we have some extra weight on board”, just then the hatch way began to sag and Sam heard a loud, angry roar on the other side.  “Frank, help me with this turret” Sam said as he unbuckled the chain gun from the ceiling of the troop bay and set it up just in front of the door.  Sam pulled the triggers and the barrel began to spin just as the door gave way, but by the time he saw the ugly face of the monster that made a lunge for him the gun was firing, the monster’s face was barely recognizable due to the forty seven rounds that Sam had poured into its face by the time it let go and fell into the night sky.

Sam pulled off his helmet and leaned back in his seat and dozed off shortly after.

Sub Chapters – Survival and Emergence Pt. 2

    Basement, February 29, 2883, 12:06 A.M.

Karen started to regain consciousness, her head ached but she did her best to sit up and see what was left.  The door was collapsed and the only thing keeping them safe was the concrete layer between the basement and the main floor of their house that must have been supporting the weight of whatever was on the other side.

She grabbed a flashlight off of her dryer and began to search for her kids.

First she saw Amy who was leaning up against a wall, clutching a stuffed bear.  Then she saw Elliot, he was lying in a corner…lying in a large pool of blood with a big piece of glass sticking out of his leg just above the kneecap.

    “Oh god!” Karen yelled.

She ran to the bathroom and fumbled around the cabinet until she found the emergency kit, and a toob of toothpaste then ran back.  She unpacked the kit until she found some bio foam.

“Ok, bite down on this” she said as she handed him the toob of toothpaste, and he reluctantly did.

“Ok, this is going to hurt.”  She grabbed the shard of glass and yanked it out, while quickly applying the bio foam and wrapping a bandage around his leg just in case.

She also found in the emergency kit, a mobile audio distress beacon (M.A.D.B.) this was essentially a fluorescent orange box with two small thrusters, a recorder, and a small transponder beacon.

Karen activated the audio and spoke into it:

“This is Karen Conners of Dallas, we have survived the explosion and need immediate assistance.  I have two kids, one of which is wounded and has lost a lot of blood, please, someone help.”

Karen activated the transponder and activated the thrusters and held it up to the small basement window, and let it go.  The box propelled itself across her yard and clattered onto the street.  She hoped to god that someone would see it.

    Ruins of Dallas, 12:48 A.M. February 29, 2883

Borak’Vor and his two companions, Voram’Rae, and Hrode’Dro had just emerged from one of the human’s underground tunnel systems where they had seen another form of faster transportation yet, this was a large vehicle with several large cylinders that it pulled behind it on a fixed piece of railing, although this was just a smoldering pile of wreckage that was bunched up at one end of the tunnel.  They exited onto a large open area with several dozen piles of rubble that may have once been their homes.  They followed another piece of human engineering; this was a long strip of black ground with several yellow lines that ran down the center.  These odd things appeared all over the city and the outdoor vehicles seemed to travel along them on either side.

They followed this path until something caught Borak’Vor’s eye, a bright colored box with a flashing red light was sitting in the middle of the path.  Borak’Vor picked it up, examined it and found the blinking light rather annoying so he broke it off rather easily.

He also found several push able bumps along the front.  He pushed them one at a time until a human voice appeared on it, he couldn’t understand what it was saying but he considered keeping it to further examine later.

    Re: FF: From Below

    Chapter 4 – Assault

    Fire Base Beta, Sarajevo, March 1, 2883, 7:14 A.M.

Mission Objective: Escort the Mobile Heavy Equipment Transport (M.H.E.T.) which is carrying the Vapor Bomb, to the underground Areklecko central burrow.  Arm it, detonate it, and escape.  Survival is not guaranteed.

Well this was it, Sam, Frank, James, the rest of Xeda squad and 200 other marines were assembled outside the entrance to the main cavern which was also closest to what was presumed to be the Areklecko main burrow.  Each marine was given fifteen, 60 round MA6B clips loaded with shredder rounds.  The mission was to protect the MHET which was basically a small truck which was capable of transporting very heavy objects and in this case, the Acidic Vapor bomb which was securely fastened to the back, into the main chamber while Xeda squad as well as the main force was to make a diversion until the bomb could be armed.

With that being said, they all marched inside.  Alpha battalion (main force) and Bravo team (demolition squad charged with planting the bomb) both went down separate paths.

Sam was relatively close to the front and was a bit nervous which grew to a small amount of dread as they entered a large chamber with lots weirdly positioned tunnels which looked recently dug, thing is these tunnels effectively surrounded Alpha battalion, and no later then the lieutenant yelled “Its an ambush!!!” then swarms of Areklecko poured in from all directions, and it didn’t take any orders for the marines to open fire upon the hordes of monsters.

Heavy gunfire and rockets pierced the darkness as the first wave of monsters seemed to stagger as they were hit by an invisible wall of shredder rounds and rockets exploded, turning them into bloody ribbons, but the advantage didn’t last long as marines began to slowly break ranks and were beginning to be cut down by creatures as black as the darkness itself.

Sam unloaded on a group of four Arke forms that were unfortunate enough to catch his attention, turned and saw Frank pop and Areklek form in the face with his shotgun, James was lying prone on a ledge and picking off targets left and right.

A marine next to Sam was torn in half by an Arelock form which immediately turned its attention to Sam.  It lunged at him, knocking him to the ground, Sam instinctively grabbed his combat knife and slammed it into its throat and with two hands he pulled the knife forward, cutting a clean gash from the base of its throat all the way to its mouth.  The creature bled out very quickly but before flailing about on the ground, trying to regain its footing.

Sam stood up, then things seemed to move in slow motion, he could here the steady pounding of his heart, his heavy breathing, he looked down at the fallen marine’s assault rifle, the status light still blinking green, Sam picked it up and turned it over in his hand, he saw the blood of its former handler on the grip, and just then his entire life went before his eyes.

He remembered his first Christmas, his first day in high school, the accident that killed his parents, his wedding day, the first time he held a gun, then…the soft voice of his wife as he left for his first mission “Come back home safely…”, his kids as they waved goodbye.  The last words of his wife echoed in his mind, there was nothing, no where to go home to, Sam looked up and for the first time in days, for the first time ever, he felt nothing, no fear, no anguish, no sorrow, his mind and soul were completely devoid of thought and emotion…except for one thing…rage…he felt nothing but pure rage.  He snapped back into focus, looked up again to see an Arelock, on all fours barreling towards him, Sam couldn’t take it anymore, he let out a loud battle cry, lifted up both his and the fallen soldier’s assault rifle and fired both of them in unison.  The incoming monster reeled back as the shredder round tore it to pieces, bits of blood and flesh went flying through the air as it hit the ground, dead.  Sam continued to fire at everything that moved until his second weapon ran dry, he dropped it and continued shooting.

Sam saw something out of the corner of his eye, turned and saw an Arke form take a flying leap with open jaws, straight at him, Sam held his assault rifle like a bat and swung.

The creature went flying backwards and hit the ground and Sam could see where his rifle had hit, there was an open head wound where Sam could see bits of brain from the inside of its cracked skull, Sam stepped over to it, jammed the barrel of his rifle in the wound and emptied the rest of his clip into its skull.

Reloading and continuing to fire upon the overwhelming hordes of monsters when everyone froze, the humans and the Areklecko all froze and backed away from each other.

Sam looked around and saw a massive creature, bigger than any he had ever seen, that came striding into the chamber, it had white markings on its head and was closely followed by two other Arelocks.  It looked Sam dead on then looked back at its companions, grunted, and one of them handed it something.

It looked back at Sam and tossed him a orange box, Sam picked it up and just then over the comm. the lead demolition expert yelled,

“Bomb planted and armed, get the hell out of there!”

The alien with the white markings seemed to here that and spoke in a warped human speech, “Retreat.”

With that all the remaining Areklecko began to fall back, to where, Sam did not know.

Also he found himself retreating as well, the remaining one hundred and twelve soldiers began to high tail it to the entrance, from where they watched as the entire cave collapsed as the bomb began to work its magic, painful cries could be heard from deep within as Sam began to listen to the audio on the emergency device.  His spirits jumped and he immediately consulted Sgt. Anderson upon arrival back in the U.S. about the audio.

Sub Chapters – Once Thought Lost and Understanding

    Ruins of Dallas, March 2, 2883, 4:58 A.M.

Sam veered the warthog past overturned cars and trucks which littered the road way until he came upon what used to be his street where he lived.

Pulling up alongside what he though was his house; he exited the vehicle and stepped out onto the rubble.  He got pretty good confirmation that it was his home when he saw a family photo which was cracked and torn, lying half underneath a piece of wood.

Sam then saw a faint light coming from a small crack in what he assumed was the basement door.

Frantically he began removing pieces of debris until he found that some of it was too heavy, so he grabbed his sniper rifle and began using it like a jack until he cleared the way.

Sure enough he saw Karen and their kids huddled in a corner.

Karen was covered in dirt and blood but she got up, ran over to him and gave him a big hug as did Sam’s kids.

“We thought you were lost.” Karen cried.

“So did I.  Let’s get you guys to the hospital, and then I think I promised you all a vacation.  Happy anniversary” he said back.

While they were climbing into the warthog Sam looked up and saw the sun beginning to rise in a beautiful array of oranges and yellows, then he saw something large and black standing on a hill off in the distance.

Sam leveled his rifle, looked through the scope and steadied his aim on the creature’s face.  Then it turned its head towards him and revealed a series of white markings.  Sam lowered his rifle and turned back towards the warthog and sped off.

    Ruins of Dallas, March 2, 2883, 5:21 A.M.

“Why didn’t it shoot?” Voram’Rae asked.

It took a few seconds for Borak’Vor to reply,

    “Gratitude.” He answered back.

In truth though he didn’t know why it hadn’t fired, he thought to himself.  The human race was certainly complex yet simple in its own ways.  They charged blindly into war with little knowledge of victory or defeat, they fought for each other and for their very existence.  He had seen them give their lives away and at the same time fight valiantly for significant individuals which they died defending till the last breath.

    “Sun rising.” Voram’Rae said.

“So it is.  We’d better get to cover.”  Borak’Vor replied.

“What will happen now? Where will we go?” Hrode’Dro questioned as they ran.

“Don’t worry, leader has a plan.” Borak’Vor answered.

My suggestion is that you group your entire fanfic onto single post.  That being done by pressing "edit" on the first post, and then transferring the rest to it.  Using the "edit" button you can also change the title of the thread by editing the initial post.

    Step by step:

Select the "edit" button on your first post.

You will be delivered to a new page, where you can edit the title of the thread.

    Now, hit post.

Edit: yeah, I think you did it.

P.S, sorry if you interpreted this in a way that you find offensive, but I believe that posting step by step instructions facilitates everything.
