    Private Lewis (FF)

    Prologue- Private Lewis

“I never wanted to be a marine,”

Sounds of war thundered though the valley. Cannons boomed as they pounded the once beautiful rain forest into pulp. The muzzle flashes of each soldier's rifle lit up like fire flies during the summer. Yet they were followed by almost inhuman moans and cries. Then up into the air a flare lit up what was left of the valley with a red hazy glow. It showed was a gruesome scene…bodies…thousands…everywhere. As division of tanks started to move though the blood soaked ground little puddles of blood from the their treads followed them as they went by.

“My father encouraged me to enlist, told me it’ll make me a man,” “Well he’ll know if he was right…very…very soon.

    Chapter One- Training

“They said the trainers at the Marine Core would eat you alive.”

“Who the hell are you recruit?!” yelled the trainer.

                “Richard Lewis,”

The trainer moved closer towards me, looked at me straight into the eye. “Richard Lewis what?” he snarled.

                “Richard Lewis” I answered.

“I see we have a wise a** here.” The trainer pulled his arm back and punched me right in the gut. I fell to the floor. The trainer crouched down and said “That Richard Lewis sir to you” He then kicked me in the gut and walked away. “I hope this serves as a lesson for you all” he bellowed. “Now I think its time for a short jog to the shooting range,”

“That was the first time I met Sgt. Patterson,”

The short jog went for two miles on the gravel roads around the facility. Then Patterson decided to get original. He decided to take us another five miles through the woods where they were just so happening to have artillery testing. Some of the recruits cracked. They just stopped running. They just stood there. But the Sgt. kept running. As if he didn’t notice anything.

“I never did see those recruits again.”

We finally got to the range after we went past five times.

“Attention” Sgt. Patterson bellowed. “All of you are at the shooting range. And since you're here you're going to learn how to shoot.” “But first I have to weed out the people that won’t be able to.” “Hold out your hand.”

All the recruits looked confused. Wondering what this has to with shooting.

“I said HOLD OUT YOUR HAND!” Patterson yelled.

                40 hands shot straight up.

                “Now keep still,”

He then went up to the first recruit. I think his name was Charles or something. Sgt. Patterson didn’t even look at Charles. The Sgt. just stared at his hand. After 2 min. of silence Patterson went up to Charles’ ear and screamed “BOOM!” Charles nearly jumped out of his skin.

“This place is not for you no get the F*** out of here.”

And this continued with every recruit. Every time Patterson did something different. From make them keep still for 30 min. to shooting a pistol by their ear, every time someone flinched even slightly they were immediately kick out of the camp. Then he came to me. I of course was last in line and was still made to stay still. Which just happened to be 3 hours.

“So we come to the wise a**” said Patterson.

I didn’t answer. Didn’t even look at him. Just stared into space. Patterson came up to my ear and said “Don’t twitch,” Patterson nodded to a couple of his “helpers,” They each took out a night stick and walked towards me. They both raised their arms and swung giving me two nice hard smacks. I didn’t even twitch. This was nothing compared to the beatings I took at home.

“Okay wise a** you pass,” “Now go get a rifle and start shooting.”

“Out of the forty recruits, 15 remained.” “And I was one of them.”

    Chapter 2 –First Mission

“The fifteen of us trained for 11 months, we trained to become killers…or an army of f***en death machines as the Sgt. would say.” “I had learned many things during that time, from making homemade weapons out of sticks and mushrooms, to killing a person with one finger.” “Now it was time graduation.”

Sgt. Patterson walked into the mess hall. “Attention!” 15 men stood straight up. “First of I like to congratulate all of you for making it through training,” “Second I like you welcome each and every one of you to the 22nd division of the marine core. Also known as the Silent Knights,” “You’re the first and only kind,” “You’ll now be split into five squads of three men, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo. As he called of each name for each squad I dosed off to a happier time.

It was just 5 years after the war against the covenant. Earth was just trying to rebuild” “The elites that help us during the war left us to go fight some other war, I was never told where, but they never came back.” “Some people thought they had left us, others acted like they were never here.” “I was eight of course so I don’t remember too much, but I do remember my father always complaining about how the USNC wasn’t taking care of us enough or something like that,” “It never really concerned me though…”

“Richard Lewis your going to Delta Squad” said the Sgt.

After the all the names were called we sat with our squads. Delta included Larry, who was an okay guy has a very good shot though, and Mary, who was an excellent tactician. Then Patterson assigned each of us different roles. Larry, sniper, which was a given, Mary, squad leader, of course, and me a support gunner.

"Squads your first mission is Operation: Devils Flame,"

“Your mission is to escort five engineers to five scorpion tanks that had just broken down 2 hours ago down into the swamps of what was known a Georgia, US. Each squad will be assigned to protect one engineer.” “We’re sending you because the engineers need…protection.”

                “From what?” asked Mary.

                “From…dangerous wildlife…”

“10 min. later we were in the air.” “The UNSC never really changed much with air transport, we still ride in these rusted out pelicans from the war,” “The only thing different is a small stealth capability, not really invisible it just block radar,” “Always wondered why we needed it though…”

The pelican started to descend into the swamp. After it was five feet above the ground the pilot yelled “Go Go GO!” 15 troops ran into the darkness. The plan was all planned out between us during the ride the drop off. Alpha and Beta squads would take the tanks that were the farthest east and west respectfully Charlie and Echo took the two that were closest since they weren’t as fast as the other squads. Delta squad got the one the one that was oddly the most separate from the group. All the other squads had to move forward towards the tanks, but we had to back track.

Our engineer was a guy named Bobby. He was a small man, never really talked. He reminded me of a mole, with the nose and everything. As we walked through the muck of the swamp it oddly started snowing. But it nicely suited since it was Christmas. But snow in Georgia? I had a lot memories with snow…

“It was snowing when I told my parents I was signing up for the marines,” “My father wasn’t really enthusiastic about it though, at first I thought he didn’t hear me so I told him again,” “He answered saying at least it’ll make you a man,” “I responded excitedly” “I can’t wait to serve the great UNSC,” “My father looked at me with a almost disappointed face, Well I have to go to work” he said. That was the last time I heard from him. I guess the letters got lost in the mail or something…”

As we hiked through the swamp Sgt. Johnson’s words kept going through my head. “Dangerous Wildlife,” what could that mean? The only predatory wild life that could be dangerous is the alligators, but they are pretty rare due to the pollutions of war still lingering in the swamp. Then a big crack sounded through the woods. I twisted my head around and saw Bobby on the ground clutching his ankle. Mary ran up, took out her field kit and asked “What’s wrong?”

“My ankle he answered “I fell when I stepped on that branch over there,”

“You sprained it on that fall. Let me split that up for you,”

“This will slow our speed to half of what we were making before, you know.” said Larry as he helped Bobby to his feet.

“I guess we’ll have to compensate,” responded Mary, “Lewis take point,”

I nodded and trotted ahead as Larry helped Bobby walk. We continued on for the 2 miles we had left till we got to the tank. At 100 feet I held up my hand.

“We’re close to the tank,” I said.

“Okay,” Mary said, “everyone get into position,”

    Chapter 3 – Wild Life

“All squads come in. Delta squad is position over,” said Mary.

                No answer

“I repeat Delta Squad is in position over,”

                 Nothing

“The other squads probably went to radio silence,” said Larry

“It’s still strange though,” I said.

“Forget about it,” said Bobby “these radios are so old I’m surprised they even work,”

“Okay lets just finish the mission,” said Mary. “Bobby do what you supposed to do,”

                “On it,” he answered.

Larry got up to help Bobby, but Bobby shook his head, “don’t worry I’m okay,” he then started to limped towards the tank.

                “Hey,” said Jack “Wake up,”

                “What,” replied Li.

                “I see one…..”

                “Good on my Mark….”

Once Bobby got to the tank he started to look around for any sign of malfunctions. “Nothing on the outside,” he said, “Let me ch-,”

A blinding light engulfed both Bobby and the tank, followed by a fiery explosion that sent shock waves through the swamp. Everything went black.

                “We were at war,”

“Private wake up,” a voice said.

“Huh what?” I answered. “Where am I?”

“You’re at Alpha Base son,” the voice replied.

                “Sarge?” “What Happened?”

“The tank was a bomb…They all were.” “Your squad was the only one to survive. Can’t say that about Bobby though,”

“Who did this?” I demanded, “The URF?”

“No son,” “They were defeated long ago,”

                “Then who?”

“The citizens of Earth,” “We are in Civil War…”

    Chapter 4 –Letters

    Dear Son,

I am sorry you have to hear this but I’m leaving your mother. We can not tolerate each other anymore. Ever since you left we have been constantly fighting and I can not handle it. Don’t bother looking for me I will not come back.

                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                Dad

P.S. I did get those letters

    Dear Son,

Your father and I had separated. I don’t know why he left. He started yelling at me just because I said something about the UNSC. I asked what was wrong with the UNSC and he yell “Don’t even try to find me,” and he stormed out the door. It has been hard without your father. I’ve been very lonely. I’m sorry for this sad news.

                                                                                                                Love,

                                                                                                                Mom

“He will pay for bringing my mother so much pain,”

    Chapter 5 –What If?

“It’s been just a month since that mission,” “At first the rebels were few in number and used guerilla tactics, now it seems the whole planet is up against us. They even raided a few of our bases; they took all the weapons and vehicles. Now we don’t even have the advantage of better technology.” “This will turn into a blood fest if this doesn’t end,”

                “Attention!” bellowed Sergeant Patterson.

                Three bodies stood straight.

“Your next mission is codename ‘Beaver in the Den’.” “For this mission you must assassinate one of the rebel leaders. From our Intel we gathered this leader is stationed in the back woods of the former state known as Oregon. The leader is in a base fortified by artillery and armor. Not to mention about 1000 troops in and around the base,”

“Don’t want it to make it to easy for us,” replied Larry.

“You will be transported by pelican to about 15 miles from the base,” Patterson continued, “you will then have to hiked for the rest of the way,” Be careful, the rebels without a doubt laid traps along the way.” “Good luck Knights,”

“Larry, Lewis,” Mary said, “time to load up!”

We all jogged towards the armory. “Pick what you like,” said Mary. Larry lifted up a sniper rifle. It was one of those old ones from the Covie War; it was a perfect match for this mission. Mary took a battle rifle, which was updated with a night vision scope and a larger bullet capacity; she also took the field med kit and the radio. I took a prototype LMG called the “scrapper” this long barreled gun is basically a lighter version of the old warthog turret. I also took a rocket launcher with me. Another “antique” from the Covie War it had a locking function that would be useful against any armor that we would run into.

As we came out of the armory the pelican touched down on the landing pad. Three boots clanked on the metal inside the pelican. The ship’s jets flared as the pelican lifted into the sky and flew towards its destination. As always Mary gave us the plan for what to do.

“Okay as we all know we get dropped off here, about 15 miles from the base,” said Mary, “we should hike on the side of these mountains, so we have a lesser chance of being spotted,” “Larry you have the sniper rifle you will be the one to assassinate if he is out in the open,” “Any questions?”

“Is there going to be any dangerous wildlife?” I replied.

“Yes, a lot of dangerous wild life…” Mary answered grimly.

After about 15 minutes of no one talking Larry decided to break the silence.

“What if?” he asked, “what if we are on the wrong side?”

“What are you talking about?” answered Mary.

“What if we are actually not the good guys but the bad?”

“You’re starting to talk like a rebel Larry,” I replied.

“I’m not a rebel,” “I just hope the UNSC isn’t using his war as an excuse to become corrupt and power thirsty…” “Just forget what I’m saying I am just a little sick from this bumpy ride,”

“The UNSC corrupt?” “What is he talking about?”

Chapter 6- Beaver in the Den

“Let’s go Knights!” yelled the pilot, “go Go GO!”

We jumped down from the pelican and made our way through the woods. The radio then crackled, “Attention all units this is Commander Larson,” “Me and my division are advancing west of your position hold your fire I repeat hold your fire,”

“Sarge never said anything about friendlies,” I said.

“I know,” answered Mary, “lets just keep an eye on them,”

“Let’s get these tanks moving!” yelled Larson.

As the tanks and troops started to move forward a flare shoots up in the air.

“What the hell is that?” a marine asked. He watched it fly up into the sky. He felt something wet on his shoulder. When he turned he found chucks of brain on him from his dead comrade. “Sniper!” he yelled.

“Get some fire on them trees!” boomed Larson.

Bullets pierced the forest constantly for a whole minute. Twigs and branches a like were tore down like grass through a lawn mower. “Cease Fire!” yelled Larson, “cease fire,” Two rockets shot through the woods colliding with Larson’s tank.

“Rocket launchers!” yelled another marine, “east side!”

The turret of each tank turned to the east. They fired their shells in huge volleys disintegrating the whole tree line. All that was left of the Rocket Launchers were charred stumps and trunks.

“Whoa that was clo-” ten bullets shot threw the marine severing his spine and killing him instantly. “Warthogs! They’re behind us!” The marines were getting mowed down as the ten warthogs barreled through the ranks. One unlucky soul got his legs ran over, shattering them. He cried in agony, but was soon silenced when another warthog crushed his skull.

But then the warthogs disappeared into the woods. Nobody had the time to react to what just happened. “How did they surround us?” asked a marine.

                “I don’t know,” replied another.

“Hey,” “Are those short swords ours?”

Three short swords flew overhead laying a blanket of bombs over the whole division. As the dust cleared all that was left were the twisted skeleton of the tanks.

“Where the hell did they get short swords?” asked Larry.

“Forget about it,” answered Mary, “let’s move!”

We ran towards the direction of the base until we were about two miles from it. Mary who was at point held up her hand. We all crouched down and opened our ears for any sign of movement. We stood still for a good two minutes. Then a deer came into view. As it was about to pass us it stopped as if it sensed something in front of it. The deer took another step. Then a “click” sounded. Where the deer once was, was a smoldering crater.

“Guess this is where the mine field starts,” said Larry.

    Chapter 7 –Rebels

“How are we supposed to get around this?” I asked.

                “I don’t know?” Mary replied.

“Can’t we just go into that tunnel?” asked Larry.

                “Tunnel?” replied Mary, “Where?”

                “Right over there,”

Larry pointed his finger a hole that was 4 feet in diameter.

                “Wow,” I said, “That’s convenient,”

When we got to the tunnel Mary went up and inspected it. “Seems okay,” “Don’t know where it leads though,”

Larry crawled through first, “It opens into a cavern,” he called, “It is big enough for us to walk in,”

I went through the tunnel next. It was pretty small at first, but got progressively bigger as it went on. Once I reached the cavern I stood up. There was a dim flashing light coming from the distance. Yet there was no sign of Larry. I looked down for any tracks in the muck that covered the floor.

                “Hey, Mary,”

“What is it Lewis?” “And where’s Larry?”

I pointed to three pairs of tracks leading to the dim light.

“Some one else was here,” I said.

“Let’s follow it but do it quietly,” said Mary.

I nodded and started to walked a long the wall of the cavern. As we got closer the light got brighter and brighter. When we reached the light the cavern ended. The light was a flood light connected to a metal wall. On the wall was a steel door.

“Lewis, disable that light I’ll check the door,”

I went over to the flood light and smashed it with my scrapper. I then leaned on the wall next to the door waiting for Mary to open it. She reached towards the door knob and twisted it. The door popped open. I poked my head out. But I saw nothing but a hallway with two doors on either side.

Mary looked at me and said “You take right and I’ll tak-,”

The two doors slammed open and five rebels ran out. I squeezed a burst from my scrapper which sent shredded the one rebel. I adjusted my aim for the next rebel pulled the trigger which opened his head like a piñata. Bits of brain sprayed on the surviving rebels, stunning them long enough for six bursts from Mary’s battle rifle to take them down.

One of the doors opened again. This time though someone threw a sliver rectangle shape thing which bounced next to us.

                “Flash bang!” Mary yelled.

The flash bang blew up, sending a flash of bright light into my eyes. I heard boots clanking on the floor. I felt something hit the back of my head. Everything went black.

    Chapter 8 –Capture

“Where did you find them?” asked a voice.

“They came through the underground door sir,” replied another.

“Sgt. Li,” “Corporal Jack,” “Report to me this instant,”

Jack and Li came walking through the door.

“What is it sir?” asked Li.

“Hey Li,” “These are two of those marines we saw before,” said Jack.

“Yes,” replied Li, “So they are,”

“That is why I called you,’ said the first voice, “We need information,” “And you two know how to get it,”

The door opened, the clanking of boots faded in the distance.

                “Li,” “where’s the button?”

“Crack!” My eyes ripped open, a horrible pain shot up my spine I coughed up blood.

“Where is the rest of your squad!” yelled Jack.

I didn’t say anything. I looked at him with a face that said “Hit me again see what happens,”

Jack raised his button above his head. But Li caught his arm.

“Let’s see if the other one will talk,” he said.

I looked at Mary. She was a mess. There was blood dripping from a gash on her forehead and there were bruises all over her face. “Guess they don’t really care about us,” I thought.

“Wake up,” Jack nudged Mary with his button.

Mary’s opened. She had a dazed look in her eyes. She shook her head to clear it up.

“Where’s the rest of your squad?” asked Jack.

                “What squad?” Mary replied.

Jack whacked her in the ribs. “Don’t you joke with me!” “Where’s the rest of your squad?”

“We are the rest of the squad,” she answered.

“Okay that’s it,” Jack took out his pistol and aimed it at Mary’s head.

“Put the gun down Corporal,” boomed a voice.

Jack turned around. His face turned from anger to fear. “Yes sir Captain Larry sir,”

    Chapter 9 –Betrayal

“You *** traitor,” I said, “I’m going to kill you,”

“Your empty threats are worthless,” replied Larry, “I tries to convert you, bring you to our side, but you were a good little boy and didn’t leave mommy’s side,” “Now you and Mary are going to die because of it,”

“Over my dead body!” yelled Mary. She took a knife from her back pocket, cut the ropes that strapped her to the chair and sliced Jack’s throat. Jack’s screams came out with gurgling noises as he drowned in his own blood.

I then broke out of the ropes that held me down and threw myself at Larry. We both fell to the floor. Larry’s pistol became upholstered during the fall and slide across the floor. I stretched my arm out trying to reach it but Larry pulled me out of reach. I turned around and punched him solid in the gut, he doubled over. I took the gun aimed it right at Larry.

“Wait,” Larry begged, “You can’t do this I’m in the UNSC,”

“No, you’re a god *** rebel,” I answered. Two gun shots went off. Larry was dead.

I looked around for that other guy, but Li was long gone. Mary put her hand on my shoulder, “Come on Lewis,” she said, “we still have a mission to do,”

We opened the door to the hallway and started to walk though it. Just across from us was another door. Just when we were about to open it the door knob twisted. We tried to flatten ourselves on the wall to avoid being seen. The door opened and two rebels carrying our confiscated weapons came out. We quickly got our arms around their necks and twisted. Their bodies crumpled to the floor. We quickly took our weapons back and went though the door.

“Where do you think this leader is?” I asked.

“Well there are two doors left,” Mary responded, “He has to be in one of them,”

“Let’s check the one on the right,”

I twisted the door knob and pushed the door, gun in hand. Inside the room was an arm chair. Inside the chair was a man. And the man, was my father.

Chapter 10-Family Reunion (Guest Chapter by Captain Cazador- Soldato)

    “What-what are you-” I stuttered.

    “You know him?” Mary asked.

“He-he’s my father.” I replied. Seeing Mary’s look of shock, my father said,

“He’s telling the truth. He is my son, the ignorant one who ignores the true enemy of Humanity.”

“How could you?” I asked. Despite my hatred of him, I could not believe that he was a rebel. “How could you turn your back on the UNSC?”

“How could I? Very easily.” My father smiled, and began one of his beloved lectures. “The UNSC is a group of ignorant, hypocritical politicians. They may have once been concerned with the fate of Humanity, but now they are simply devoted to protecting themselves.”

I heard a sound behind me and swung around to see two rebels raising their rifles, about to fire.

“Don’t shoot!” my father yelled. “Take their weapons then leave us be.”

The two rebels did as they were ordered then left, shutting the door behind them.

“So, now we can have a decent conversation without me being concerned about being shot.” my father joked. I didn’t smile. Neither did Mary. She just seemed confused about the situation.

“That’s not true.” I said. “They aren’t hypocrites. They have our best interests at heart.”

    My father chuckled and said,

“Is that so, Son? After the war with the Covenant, the UNSC stopped caring about the welfare of its citizens. They remade all of their own homes, their own offices, while their citizens wallowed in the muck of their pitiful existence. You were lucky to have a home growing up.”

I was about to say something when my father suddenly barked,

“Take them to a high security cell. Take more care with them this time.”

The door opened and the two rebels reentered. They grabbed me and Mary roughly by our arms, then dragged us out of the room.

    Chapter 11 –Imprisonment

They dragged us down the hall towards a rust covered door. One of the rebels opened it. It screeched as it slowly swung open.

“Hope you like your new room,” said one of the rebels as he pushed us into the cold poorly lit room. He then slammed the door shut.

“Well look what the cat dragged in,” said someone in the darkness.

“Who the hell are you,” I replied.

A marine came forth through the darkness. “Corporal Frankie at your service,” he said.

“Frankie, what squad are you from?” Mary asked.

“I’m from Alpha squad,” “I wa-,”

“Alpha Squad!” I interrupted, “You’re a Silent Knight!”

“I was wondering when you would notice,” he said.

“How did you get here?” asked Mary.

“I blacked out when the tank I was supposed to help fix blew up,” “When I awoke I was strapped in a chair and was getting questioned,” “They threw me in here for hopes I’ll go insane and tell them everything,”

“How long did you last?” I asked.

    “About three weeks or so,”

“Hey is that live ammo?” asked Frankie as he pointed towards my vest.

I looked down, “Yes it is,” I answered, “a whole magazine actually. I guess the stupid rebels missed it,”

“Hand it over,” he said, “I got an idea,”

I handed him the magazine. He took a bullet out and placed it where the locking mechanism would be. He then took a piece of crumpled concrete from the wall and hit the back of the casing with it. The bullet went off destroying the lock. Frankie then pushed the door open.

“It time to get out of this dump,” he said as he walked out the door.

Mary and I followed Frankie as he walked down the hall. We came up to a door labeled armory. Frankie opened the door ever so slightly. He then quickly closed it.

“There are two rebels,” he said, “let’s take them out,”

Mary and I took the left and right sides of the door. Frankie knocked on it. The two rebels walked out. I swung my fist right in the temple of one of the rebels; his body fell to the floor. The other rebel turned towards me, but quickly dropped by a swift kick to the side of the head by Mary.

“Take their clothes and weapons,” said Frankie, “don’t forget to hide the bodies and load up from their armory,”

    Chapter 12- Escape

“Here’s the plan,” Frankie announced as he stood in front of a map in the armory, “Since there are only two uniforms, me and Lewis are going to put them on. We will then act as though we are moving Mary to a different cell, but we will really be making our way to this vehicle depot. Once we get to the depot will take a warthog and drive as fast as we can to one of these three UNSC camps,”

“Sounds good,” Mary replied, “let’s do this.”

I opened the door and peered out. The hallways were empty. We took a right towards the base’s vehicular depot. As we walked I glanced towards the others. Mary, the one closest to me, walked handcuffed while Frankie, to the right of her, had an assault rifle in hand.

The slight patter of foot steps echoed in the distance.

“Forget stealth,” I said, “let’s move!”

And we ran as fast as we could to the garage. Right before we turned the corner we stopped. Frankie looked around the corner. “Just another two guards no problem,”

                The footsteps got louder.

“And more to come,” replied Mary.

Frankie took out a flash bag and threw it. A bright flash lit up the hallway. I turned the corner and fired my assault rifle. The rebels dropped to the ground. We ran into the depot. In there were five warthogs lined up in a row. We jumped in the nearest one. Mary took the wheel and slammed on the gas pedal. The depot’s door opened to a ramp. We drove off it and went into the woods.

    Chapter 13- Hunted

The warthog raced through the woods, swerving left and right to avoid the occasional stump. The forest itself was quiet and motionless, as if it was a graveyard. The only signs of life were the sporadic flashes of fire flies in the distance.

“You think they’re still chasing us?” I asked.

“Probably not,” replied Frankie, “they’ll forg-,”

“Warthogs!” interrupted Mary, “12 o’ clock! There’s two of them!”

I turned the turret around to face the oncoming warthogs and fired. The first one in the front turned sharply to the right to dodge the fire, disappearing behind the trees. The second one however returned fire in a huge spray of bullets, which shattered the brake lights of the hog narrowly missing my legs.

I aimed toward the hog and fired. A trio of bullets went through the window ripping the driver’s neck into shreds. The warthog lost control and hit a nearby tree, exploding on impact.

                “Nice shot Lewis,” said Frankie.

                “Thanks…” I replied.

“What’s that on the left?” asked Frankie, “***, it’s the other warthog. Don’t worry I got it,”

Frankie bent down into his seat. He lifted a rocket launcher up and balanced it on his shoulder. He waited a few seconds for a lock-on. He fired; the rocket whistled though the trees. It hit the hog right in the middle. It flipped in the air and landed in a pile of burning slag.

“Where the hell you get that?” I asked.

“I found it at the Dollar Store, two for a buck,” answered Frankie sarcastically.

The warthog started to slow down.

                “What’s wrong?” I asked.

“We’re out of gas,” Mary replied, “guess we’re walking,”
