There will obviously be a Halo 4 in the future for a handful of reasons, granted it may not exist RIGHT NOW.

a) Have you seen the bonus cut scene after beating Halo 3 on Legendary?

b) They've heavily hinted towards making another Halo and even another Halo trilogy.

c) If you are making a product that is selling this much you probably wouldn't go make some other game.

Firstly welcome to the Halo Wars forums!

As you probably had no idea about when you joined, this has been a topic that has frequently reappeared on the forums.

As you may have gathered by the replies, there will be no Halo 4.

Halo 3 was 'the conclusion of the current story ark', the 'epic conclusion to the halo triolgy'.

So no more chief and company, contrasting to the misleading ledgendary ending.

There will be other story arks, such as this game, which looks at the start of the war, as well as Peter Jackson's Halo: Chronhicles.

they should expand on halo wars and halo chronicles when they come out

because just like Vigil said halo 3 was the end of the story arc
