Paragon Poll Ambient Life Edition 2.

Since we have an interest in the ambient life concepts I am going to run a few short duration polls on the topic.

For this second one would you rather have aggressive or defensive creatures?

Which type of creatures would you like to see in HW?

    • Aggressive : They attack any units that come near them. (5.1%)
    • Defender: They attack only to defend themselves after first being attacked. (11.4%)
    • Combination of the two (73.4%)
    • Forget the creatures I only need my opponents to kill. (10.1%)
    • Total Votes: 79
    • Voting Ended: 3/10/2008

    um... you left off

"passive creature that can be killed but does not interfere with the battle"

because seriously... no animal is going to come near a group of soldiers wielding guns... that goes against logical thinking...

I voted defensive...  because of the lack of the passive option.... but animals tend to run when they hear a gun (except geese... cause they are stupid)

too bad... goodbye any feeling of personalization on the HWF... 3 years of sig making for this website down the drain

    KrAzY:

"passive creature that can be killed but does not interfere with the battle"

For now I am operating under the idea that the ambient life will at least fight back to defend themselves. They may die very easily and have little or no attack; but that is a topic I might bring up in a future poll.

I vote the same way here... a combo... the more realistic representations of the true nature of animals the better the ambience will be.  Having a creature stalk you as prey can be realistic.... and having a territorial mother attack you only after you fire a weapon is also realistic.

I voted none. I don't like having to worry about the lions that are killing my troops convinetly right before the main enemy attack
If you're reading this, you've either been here for way too fracking long or you're just creepy.....

I voted for a combination again.

As in real life, most animals tend to stay away from humans due to our own aggressive nature. However, there are a few rare intances where animals have attacked humans unprovoked.

So, my idea is to have maybe 90% of the animals as defensive, while having the remainder being aggressive. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Eh, so do I. Wouldn't mind seeing some Grunts running from a Grizzly, though.

    Lethe:

Then you should be pretty happy with the game; it's a lot of fun.
Even if a squad of marines out of dozens of units on a battle field has shoulder pads .25" too thick for a fanboy's tastes :)

    Inspires confidence, no?

Re: Paragon Poll Ambient Life Edition 2.

I think most of the creatures should be atleast somewhat aggressive, though if a large force is going by and there are few of them, they might decide to hide. I also think semi-tame animals would be good, so on human worlds bears are used to humans and will not easily attack humans (except maybe a lone marine or marine squad) while the covenant would not be recognized and immiedietely attacked. The inverse would be true on some covenant worlds.

Animals should also be somewhat smart; if you tell a unit to move where a bear is, the bear might move out of the way, if you repeatedly move a unit, or multiple units to where the bear is though, it will become aggressive. This concept should also apply if the animal or it's home (if it has one) becomes surrounded. Another trigger for aggression could be the sounds of combat or accidental fire hitting the animal while units are firing at a different target.

I'll also mention that not all battlefields will be in "civilized" places where animals are aware who elites or humans are, so they may not fear them. Additionaly, the logic of animals is not always the same as the logic of humans.

A Halo Wars Story: Once upon a time, there was a light bridge. On that light bridge, there were many covenant. When the UNSC turned the bridge off, the covenant fell. The End.

I voted for aggressive creatures because the creatures in BFM II, you could position a batallion just outside a lair and they could kill the related creatures and level up faster...come to think of it, how will leveling up work in the game?

I agree that there should be docile creatures who can't fight back. It would keep the game interesting if the worlds you visit have varying flora and fauna. Perhaps there can be animals you can domesticate, like Rebel guard dogs or Brute Thorn Beasts.

Re: Paragon Poll Ambient Life Edition 2.

what i would do to the ambient life, as the poll want, is to make the ambients who move around at the map will stay in defence and only attack if attacked, and the one who stay in a location will attack if a unit come close. thats my oppinion
