Halo (and Bungie) is heavily influenced by the anime series Ghost in the Shell. If you don't like it you don't have to play the games. Things like the look of the invisibility, neural interface, aircraft, cyborgs, the AI....these are all borrowed from GitS. The original Martix movie is also influenced by GitS. My experience of those who hate anime only know it from crap like Pokemon/Dragon Ball Z/Inuyasha.

Yes, some of the guys at Bungie are anime fans. The file in Halo 2 when New Mombasa was destroyed was even titled "Tetsuo and Kaneda", an appropriate Akira reference.

Yeah, the only ANIME most americans are exposed to are POKEMON, NARUTO, DBZ and SAILOR MOON!

Fortunately for me, I was first exposed to Anime watching AKIRA. There is anime for kids, for adults, for sci-fi fans, horror fans, pervert fans. 

 Also, Spartan said: "IF they want war, we'll give them WAR!!!" You cant get any more cowboy american than that!!!
