    Why Bother?

Why do individuals, when they've completed their post, add to the bottom of their post, "please don't flame me," as if it's supposed to work like a bug repellent?

If someone is going to flame you, they are not going to hold back simply because you said "please don't flame." If they've already got it in their head to be an ass to you, then there's not much that you can do to stop it...

You might as well ask your bank to tip you extra.

    Please don't flame me.

    Re: Why Bother?

Because if they know they made a mistake or posted something someone didn't like they are hopeful that little repelent works. Which in some cases it does while in others it backfires. It really depends on who replies. Like if it was Felix he would flame anything.
