it really wouldnt have made a difference - the only way the flood would have been defeated was if they werent made in the first place.

The forerunners treated the flood as a disease they tried to quarantine it. If they actually tried couldn't they have won.

The Forerunners also didn't use their most powerful weapons because they feared collateral damage. If the Forerunners fought a war rather than trying to slow it down then they easily would have won.

that's a very good question. though i think all of us would underestimate how fast the Flood can overrun its prey.
i'll have to ponder this.....

answer: Unknown. . . . maybe.

The Forerunners discovered them on G617g, an outer rim world of our galaxy. whether that is the flood homeworld, which is unlikely, is doubtful.
The only other info is from the Bestarium, (sp?), which labels their orgin as "extragalactic?" with the question mark in there to add to the mystery, or something.

others can correct me if i'm wrong.

They underestimated them and were consumed, once the flood got hold of their technology, fleets, and numbers, it was near impossible to try to quarantine them.
