just because the Pillar of autumn didn't carry battle rifles doesn't mean that none of the UNSC navy had them... remember the Pillar's assignment was to board an enemy ship and use it to capture a prophet...  mabey an assault rifle made more sense for the up close environment like the inside of a covenant ship than a battle rifle did... also its larger ammo cap may have been preferred over the BR's 32 shots...

its the same deal with the pistol... why did they have HE pistols with scopes while the rest of the navy seems to be using standard pistol's... the reason that many of the stuff that was on the autumn is different from other UNSC ships is because of the nature of its mission.

true and also i remeber a part in one of the halo books(ether Fall Of Reach or The Flood) that while captian Keyes whas in a fight against a covenat ship that the spartan armory got damaged. So thats probly another reason.

    UNSC AI #23:

    SPARTAN - 117:

Once the covenant glassed Harvest, the Spartan-II's were taken to a military facilty and given the MJOLNIR mk III armor. It had no shields, however it improved their reflexes and strength and speed almost as drastically as the augmentation had. The Spartan-II's were the only humans capable of controlling the armor due to this (as it describes an ODST attempting to use it being torn apart). The Mark III armor had no shield. When the Spartan-II's were sent onto their mission to capture a prophet, Dr Halsey gave them the Mark IV armor which, using captured covenant technology, had a shield system, which makes the Halo's we all know and love. I won't tell you anymore in case anyone trying to prove people here wrong hasn't read the book yet...

Spartan-III's, well, i can't really say much here because i can't get a hold of Ghosts of Onyx yet, so i'll let someone else *cough UNSC AI #23 cough*

The Spartan-II recieved MJOLNIR armor mark IV in the Damascus Testing Facility on Chi Ceti IV in March 2525. Harvest was glassed in November 2525. Mark IV has no shielding. Spartan-IIIs use a different kind of armor called Semi-Powered Infiltration armor(SPI) Spartan-IIIs were trained in 3 companies. Alpha, Beta and Gamma. Alpha and Beta companies were un-augemented. Gamma company received augementations similar to the S-IIs but with a much higher survival rate.

    iammitchell:

Hold on, I'm pretty sure that the MJOLNIR without the shields is the Mark IV. Master Chief uses the Mark V in Halo: Combat Evolved, I'm almost positive this is right (haven' read the books in about 2 years, and currently reading GoO) because in the begging of Halo 2 Master Sgt. Gunns says:  "Well, I guess it was all obsolete, anyway. Your new suit's a Mark VI, just came up from Songnam this morning." which means its highly unlikely that Master Chief was wearing Mark IV during Halo: Combat Evolved, because Master Chief didn't get another amor upgrade until Halo 2.  Also in the Halo Graphic Novel the section titled Armor Testing in the second box some one says: "Preparing test and catalogue of A-12-121 MJOLNIR Mark VI Armor."  Also on the description page of the section it says: " that dear of Ma-117 didn't just knit him that suit og Mark V MJOLNIR Assualt Armor when he was a wee bairn."  So I think that the Armor that the SPARTAN-I's are wearing is the Mark III MJOLNIR Armor.

MJOLNIR mark I, II, III are all prototypes. The first MJOLNIR armor given to the Spartan-IIs is mark IV. The armor that the Master Chief uses in Halo: Combat Evolved is mark V. Which he recieved a little before the Fall of Reach. Spartan-Is had no armor.

Wait I never said that i think you got my quote mixed up with mitchell's.

Yeah, I know that but the thing is I was the one talking about the Armor Testing "chapter" in the Halo Graphic Novel, and Mitchell was talking about the other thing. Haha it's cool though, but wait so the MJOLNIR the "SPARTAN-I's" are wearing in the trailer is the Mark IV, right?

    It's still "the SPARTAN-IIs".

Just a question... didn't the so-called 'Blue Team' on Reach upgrade their Mark-IV with Mark-V components, so that they hat a mixture of both armors? (in First Strike)
Perhaps the armor of Spartan Group Omega is also kinda hybrid armor. Maybe not IV/V-hybrid, but what about III/IV-hybrid?

They are using mark V in the battle of Reach. It is Spartan "Red" Team. you could say that is is a Mark V/VI hybrid.

No Spartan-Is recieved very minor augementations. They cannont harness the power of the MJOLNIR system due to the Liquid Crystal Layer.

Also the so called "spartan I's" were really part of a secret military experament to see how humans would react to on the battlefield when injected with specialized drugs. This group was made up entirly out of volunteers rather then kidnapped children. They were unsecessful. The spartans armour was still in its development stages.
