Theres still a long time left in 08, so its too early to assume the game won't be out till 09. They have plenty of time to meet their speculated release date.

If it doesn't come out in the fall, it'll definantly come out early next year.

I had a theory on how the flood can be in the game and keep canon intact. I'll copy it from the thread I posted it on first.

According to some early acticles written about the game, the story centers around the Spirit of Fire. The crew of the ship discover some Forerunner artifact on Harvest while conducting ground operations to reclaim the planet from the covenant occupiers. The UNSC take the artifact on board the SOF and flee as they are pursued by covie ships attempting to take the item for themselves, which could be a reason why the planets you fight on aren't glassed from orbit, or the SOF insn't destroyed on sight by covie ships.

The artifact leads the UNSC to a few planets where you discover either more artifacts, pieces to the one you have, or something else related to the forerunners. Eventually the ship (with the covies not far behind) is lead to a forerunner planet, on that planet is a lab where the FR's studied captured flood specimen. The humans or covies accidentally activate several systems on the planet. One is a kind of time dilation field around the planet. Another is one that turns on sentinel production facilities, and a third is one that causes the release of the captured flood.

In the end, the flood outbreak is contained, and the covies forces are destroyed. Some UNSC manage to shut down the time dilation device, but later find out over 20 years have passed, and the ship returns to earth during the first invasion of earth.

dude i said the UNSC DOES NOT know about the flood but the COVENANT DO. Let ES tell us whether or not they will make an appearence in Halo Wars.

Absent from the company's list of games due in 2008 are both Alan Wake and Halo Wars. While neither game had previously given hard release dates, both were considered likely for 2008.

Microsoft softened the news of the games not appearing on the 2008 calendar by saying of Halo Wars, "We have not announced a specific timeframe for this title." As for Alan Wake, a Microsoft spokesperson said this morning that "the development of Alan Wake is going great, but we are not confirming any specifics around a release date at this time."

Clearly, neither game will be released this year.

how does this mean the game will not be released this year, when halo 3 was announced in 2006 they said coming 2007, no one knew when so they did not put up the release date. the announced the release date on the day of the beta game. as for gears of war 2 they said it was for november 2008, they are rough dates and not exact guidelines.

if they have not said the date and still remain to be confirmed that does not mean it will be next year, tom clansey's end war was meant to bee out in the first quarter of 2008 but has been pushed back due to small technical details, it is still to be confirmed. 

the game will be out this year, i do not think they would wait over 7 more months to complete a game that is already in the alpha testing stage. i believe the whole game has been finished and that they are improving certain aspects, it took halo 3 about 2 months tops to finalize everything.

also they will probably ship the game before the holiday season to get most sales, why would microsoft miss an opportunity like that.

to finalize, you have no proof that halo wars will not be released this year, all the evidence points to near complete game and an on schedule release of 2008, unless you find evidence from the horses mouth then stop posting false rumors
