    Forum Code of Conduct

General Guidelines to Posting at HaloWars.com

    The Do’s

    1. Have fun.

    2. Try to contribute to the community. Sitting on the sidelines is only fun for so long and the more we all pitch in the more fun we will all have. We are here so everyone can get involved.

    3. Start new conversations and topics. This board is here so that information and ideas can be traded.

    4. Before posting a new thread on a subject search for similar topics, read existing threads/posts, check the FAQs.

    5. Use subject lines that are descriptive of your post.

    6. Meet new people, and be friendly.

    7. Do encourage your family to view the forums together

    8. Have fun (you can’t have enough so we had to put it in twice)

    Do Nots

    1. Post offensive or derogatory comments, including those of a racial, religious, or sexual nature. This includes your username, signature line, and title.

    2. Posting pictures or links to images which contain pornography, nudity, animal cruelty, racism, or sexism. Images of violence which are extreme will be removed and may result in a warning or worse.

    3. Posting comments or links in support of illegal activities including, but not limited to, threats against the life of any living person, theft, arson, poking small animals, and piracy.  If it is illegal do not post about it here.

    4. Trying to obtain or posting someone else's personal contact information is prohibited. Examples are home phone numbers, home addresses, and any unpublished e-mail addresses.

    5. Repeatedly attacking or insulting a person in an effort to get a negative response. You have a right to disagree, but do so in a respectful manner.

    7. Posting topics or discussions with the desire to do the site or community harm. More specifically creating topics meant to disrupt the site's day to day management, disrupt member's resources, or disrupt the ability for the site to function normally.

    8. Posting repeat topics with similar or slightly varying titles. The "spamming" of the community in this manner results in problems for users and management. Multiple topics on important issues or discussions are fine, this only applies to topics which waste resources for no other reason except personal enjoyment or humor.

    9. Do not advertise any services or businesses. Any post that contains any sort of advertising will be removed and the person posting it may be banned as well.

    10. Do not continually bump or sign posts. This is similar to spamming.

    11. Do not post threads with an all capitals subject line; the thread may be edited/locked/deleted.

    12. Do not title your post soliciting ES directly such as; ES PLEASE READ, ES READ ME, ATT MODS. Doing this may result in your post being ignored or edited/locked/deleted. We will get to your request as soon as we can.

    13. Please refrain from posting in any language besides English. While we understand many people's desire to speak in their native tongues as opposed to English, this unfortunately has to remain an English-only board, to allow us to moderate it and to allow everyone to participate

    15. Posting links to or discussing pirated copy righted material will not be tolerated at HaloWars.com. Doing so will result in a instant ban.

    16. Threads highlighting/celebrating reaching a post count are considered spam and will be locked/deleted.

    17. Do not use ES (or variations of it) in your display name and do not impersonate and ES or MS employee.

    18.
Do not troll by way of posting spoilers for games, movies, tv shows, and books.

If you participate in these activities you will have your account suspended

    About Moderators

    1. Site Staff and Moderators reserve the right to edit any post or site content and to remove your ability to modify them in the future.

    2. Attacking moderators constantly will result in a ban.

    3. Periodically the moderators will purge old threads from the forums.

    4. Moderators have to follow rules too. If you have a problem with a moderator or feel you are being treated unfairly e-mail us about it. halowars@robotentertainment.com

    Re: Forum Code of Conduct

I am making some updates to this post.

    1) Try not to use any over the top internet slang. This means do not call anyone a fine gentleman, a nub, or use any sort of 4chan terminology (FTW, anything about boxxy, or any sort of the word "fail" combined with "epic"). I will be deleting posts that involve calling anyone a fine gentleman for the time being, and if you continue to use it, you will be temporarily banned.

    2) Rushing is a valid strategy. We are not going to remove the ability to attack your opponent before a certain point of time. There are many valid defenses against the rush that give you a large advantage against the rusher. There are many strategy guides on the forums and elsewhere that show you them. I will be combining all "stop the rush" threads into one thread.

    3) Only link to Halo Wars related youtube videos. There has been a recent spat of people posting random youtube videos. I'll be deleting these as off-topic. Please keep your posts on these forums Halo Wars related.

    4) No Petitions of any kind. Do not post your own "poll" threads.

    5) Do not post, either subjects or entire posts, in all caps, AlTeRnAtInG StYlEs, with no punctuation or l33t sp33k. This has seen a major resurgence lately, and I will simply be locking or deleting posts that do this.

    6) Do not bump threads. I will be locking threads that I see bumped in any way.

    Re: Forum Code of Conduct

There has been an increase in the number of low content posts lately. On top of this, a lot of people are trying to backseat moderate, or flame each other over very minor grammar/spelling issues. Also random flaming seems to have increased.

This needs to stop. I will be deleting any low content posts from users, and if I delete on of your posts, you will be banned for 1 day. If I have to delete more, the time banned will increase, all the way up to a perma ban. If you come back and create a new account, you will be IP banned.

Low Content Posts include, but are not limited to:

    1) Single word replies to posts. Just saying "Yes" or "No" is not helpful, at least write out why that is the case.

    2) Empty quoting. Just quoting a post, or saying "+1" or "I agree" is considered low content.

    3) Emoticon only replies.

    4) Baiting people, for example if they post "Hey can someone help me with this Arbiter Rush strat" and you reply "No, fine gentleman, learn to play" that is considered low content.

    4) Trashing people on the top of the leaderboards. There has been a lot of threads about people on the leaderboards and how terrible/great they are, and it always devolves into a flame war.

    5) Off-topic posts. It's okay to talk about Halo 3: ODST, but discussions about other RTS games are off-topic. Also there has been a lot of flaming about nationality lately, and I will be taking a hard look at posts that talk about that.

So try to put a little bit more effort into your posts people, it's not that hard.
