I certainly hope that the plot will be deeper then that, I love Halo for what it is. Not for how many people I get to shoot.

For one who is named after a gun that may well revolutionize the rate of fire of weapons, that is kinda of ironic.

As for the plot, I was being sarcastic because halo jo seems to be taking Bungie's bait all too well. If nothing else and Bungie does end up wiping the galazy clean, I want John to do it.

I had the feeling it had to do with Halo 2, but I don't have the game, so please do explain. I know the general storyline, but I haven't played it.

No, I've read all the books except for Ghosts of Onyx, you don't need to go that far back, just at what point in halo 2 did the elite and human allience come up and why.

Hmm... I've read the three first books and played through both campaigns once. From what I understand, although I was focused more about slicing the brutes in the back with an energy sword when I played Halo 2, is that some of the Covenant realize what "The Great Journey" actually is and that they will all be destroyed. I think there is also something to do with the brutes but I haven't played single player for a long time.

WARNING!!! SPOILERS FROM HALO 2 AHOY!!!! (not that there are that many of you who haven't played Halo 2)

Skita: Ok, so the Arbiter is the old Supreme Commander. The High Council sentences him to be strangled by his own innards (or something gruesome of that sort), but instead, the High Prophets make him the Arbiter. He is sent to deal with a Heresy near the ruins of Alpha Halo (Halo CE), and then sent to retrieve the Index on Delta Halo (Halo 2). When he has finally retrieved said Index, the Prophets order Tarturas, the Brute chieftan, to kill him and begin exterminating the Elite race. The Elites rally, and push back the Brutes quite well. Near the end of the game, you join with some Hunters and Elites and push your way through a Brute held structure to capture a Scarab in order to get access to the Control Room, where Tarturas is forcing Keyes (daughter, not father from Halo CE) to place the Index. You arrive as they prepare to execute Johnson, and in the confusion he gets control of the Scarab. You fly a Banshee, and together get into the Control Room. He grabs a Covenant Sniper (Particle Beam Rifle) and snipes at Tarturas to lower his shield while you (the Arbiter) fight him on the ground. Eventually, you kill him, and Keyes pulls the Index out from the core in order to stop the Halo, and the Halos all go on standby. The Arbiter and Johnson and Keyes then interrogate Guilty Spark (who enters the game early on) to find out the location of the Ark, where Guilty Spark says the Ark is located.

Hmmmm, Tartarus you say. I just did a report on Greek Mytholory, and Tartarus was a region that was their equivilant of hell. Has anyone else here noticed Bungie's many biblical/mythological references?

Yes, and I read a theory once about Tarturas representing Hell. There is also a lement at one point that some say is Tarturas speaking.

to add to rotaretilbos account on the elite human alliance the "civil war" began when the MC killed the <profet of Regret> sry i know i should know but it may be another one. anyways the profets did not feel like the elites were going to protect them well enough so replaced all of their top guards with the brutes. this infuriated the brutes into fight ing the brutes and rejecting the profets. the grunts, jackals, and hunters will follow either side it is really between the elites brutes and profets. hopefully i am right.
