Who knows what planet it is. It is likely there will be multiple planets with varying weather and terrain. The trailer was meant to get us all hyped up about the game. I hope that this games has some of the elements I've seen in Star Wars Empire at War where you battle back and forth over a variety of planets.

considering the landscapping and that it has multiple moons and the number of troops it is most likely an outward colony of planets being attacked by the covenant.... BUT. theres something inmportant on that world whever it is becuse the covenant wouldnt engage in a ground war if there wasnt something of value they didnt want to glass. it was probly a world containing a forerunner artifact.

yes, or maybe it may not be a human settlement but an investigation area.  Blue 5 was investigating a structure that seemed to be similar to that of forerunners. in which chase they got slaugthered.  also people are saying that the art concepts show not only scarabs, but mining scarabs.  i personally dont know a difference, plus that is just concept art.

well one thing is obvious.

 

there is a forerunner influence on that planet which is the only reason it wasnt glassed on sight. 

i agree. it definaltey has to be one of the planets that the cov. hadn't glassed.They said that this was one of the first encounter with the cov so it had to be something to some significance. I firmly believe that the cov. knew of the humans and the forerunners and decided to attack a planet that had forrunner technology. but im probably talking about of my ass yeah.

Actually they havent discoverd covent long before HALO 1 so it must be recently before the covent attacked the fleet, (the fleet which the pillar of autum made a blind jump and discoverd halo) it wasnt on earth because the covent haddent even found earth in halo 1.

Its not a covenant planet, because the UNSC has never invaded any Covenant planets.  It may or may not be Harvest.  Harvest is where it started, but hopefully the game will take us further than just the first planet of harvest so it could possibly be anywhere.

And Exar, it ain't sidewinder. Sidewinder is just a map for multiplayer it doesn't have any real bearing on the game.

It could be that the covenant have established themselves and the humans are there to tak it back
