    Question about special unit abilites

I noticed for abilites like stasis drain, if you select a group of vampires, and then use the Y ability on one unit, they will actually all seek out different units to use it on, while if you use grenades/rpg all marines/grunts will target the same unit.

Is there a list of what abilities will target groups and what abilities will target individuals.  What im really trying to get at is how does flashbang work.

Flashbang is thrown on a group of units and it stuns them (and somtiems directly surrounding units too). This is a targetted ability.

A full list of abilities is in the little guide dilivered with the game, to test what they exactly do  suggest you play against a friend or a low AI several times and just build some units.

Experience is the best way to learn RTS's.

Ya I've done that, but heres the problem.  Often times when targeting one unit, flashbang will miss and stun no one.  So when done on a group of units (say 5 grunt squads v 5 Flame throwers) and 3 of them are stunned, is that because the flamers all targeted different squads or because some of the flashbangs missed and incidentally stunned another squad

Well a more effective way is to use the flashbang when the oponents just started shooting.

This will give the flamers a change to come in close without being hit (flashbangs have a longer range than the flamethrowers).

Thats irrelevant.  I dont think you understand the problem Im havin.  Range has nothing to do with it, just as some shots will often misfire, so will flashbang.

So what I'm wondering is that if you select a group (5) Flamers and select one unit in another group (5) grunts, will the flamers all throw the flashbang at one unit, or will each flamer target a separate but same type of unit.

Go play around with vampire's and stasis drain ability, you will see what I'm talking about.

I do understand and I thought I was clear (now reading back i see that I wasn't). The statis drain seems to be a switch ability, the flashbang targetted. That means that the drain makes the vampire switcfh weapons (no matter where you point it) and it will search for a new target.

The flashbang is target, they will throw flashbangs on the target you selected, no matter what other units are walking nearby.

Re: Question about special unit abilites

All of the stun/root/lockdown abilities endeavor to spread their love out across all valid targets in an area.  If one of those targets moves, though, things with a non-instant attack (e.g. flash bangs) may miss their intended target.  Grenades are never a guaranteed-hit item.
