“Fasten your seatbelts”
Pentagon IV
October 17 2550
9:30
Boeing 747 Airbus 2550 Version
Benjamin walked up to his Boeing 747 Airbus and got ready to fly the new 2550 year version. He got on the plane and went to his operator room while hearing the announcer broadcast “We are about to take off the 17 of October year 2550 9:30 flight to Pentagon IV area 47. Thank you for flying and fasten your seatbelts.” He listened to the safety advisories and flicked the switch for the passengers to see a little hologram of seatbelts clicking together. The new planet that was called Pentagon IV was filled with life and had been found and built on for 70 years. Benjamin was born on this rather large planet along with a few more people who amounted up to the population of about one hundred million. He fired up the engines and casually walked back to the passengers. The passengers saw a twenty year old in a pilot uniform and was given a greeting by him. After the greeting, Benjamin walked back to his quarters and gripped the steering wheel. As he took off, he thought about the recent pirates of the airways. They would fly furious jets and would be ruthless. With that in mind, he flew off the tarmac and over the high tops of trees.
He flew half of the way with no trouble and then looked at his radar. There were two blips that were unidentified. He tried to identify them and with no luck, he again flicked the seatbelt light on. The attendants in the back ushered people to their seats and helped calming them down. Benjamin tried to radio the tower and had no luck. He heard a sudden silence as he saw the blip seem to disappear. His radar had just went out. He looked around and saw nothing.
He looked upwards to a blue sky and without warning, a bottom of a fighter jet whizzed into view. He traced the only visible one with his eyes. It flew right to his starboard wing. For some reason, he flew upwards and port. He pulled gees and his passengers started to yell. He looked back and saw the wing’s paint starting to peel. He finished a 360 degree turn that was very stressful to his plane. He then saw two jets streaming white in his sight. The first one that he spotted slowed as if trying to parallel park into the Boeing’s nose. Benjamin had no guns and nothing to do except run.
He spotted a pack of missiles starting to emerge from the bottom of the planes. He studied them and found out that they were heat censoring. He cracked a grin as the Boeing’s passengers yelled. He sent his fellow pilot to get all of the flares. Since it was a new model, it was fitted with a lot of flares. Benjamin lowered the back bay door a crack just big enough to sneak out a flare. The two pirates slowed to follow the plane and launch their missiles.
The crack let the assistant peak out and look for the incoming missiles. The assistant took out a cargo emergency lighter and got it ready. The first wave of missiles arced toward the Boeing and the assistant dropped several flares. As so for the second wave. He emptied out on the third and final wave. He radioed Benjamin and reported the success. He then peaked out the crack to see one missile lower from each of the planes. He told Benjamin and hurried back to the cockpit.
Benjamin rolled to his starboard and saw one of the plane’s missiles miss. It was an irregular missile that couldn’t be identified. It burst with a thud and Benjamin noticed that it made a huge explosion. The one empty plane turned around and Ben knew it was his last one to beat. He prayed that there wouldn’t be reinforcements.
He thought and then closed the hatch because he forgot. He flew into a very steep upwards angle. The plane fired its missile. He flew up to 90 degrees and noticed his engines start to sputter. He turned starboard and the plane automatically dipped into a decline of altitude. The missile tried to turn but then exploded as a last ditch effort. It completely missed as Benjamin saw the pirate disappear. He noticed his electronics come back to life and let out a brief sigh.
He flew the rest of the way with no trouble. He landed and laid out the emergency slides for the passengers to get out. He hopped out and told the headquarters there everything. A person named Pierre listened carefully. At the end of the story, Pierre stood up and straightened out his UNSC Air Force uniform. He walked to Benjamin and said, “You must know that the UNSC needs some pilots, right?”
