I really do not understand why this happy thread turned into a topic where everyone starts bitching about the game. #12 is well deserved, congratulations Ensemble and Robot!

Probably because people can't believe that a game like Halo Wars, which was an ok game if you ignore the disregard to the Halo story, got ranked 12th best Xbox 360 game ever. That Halo Wars would be ranked above Left 4 Dead, Rock Band 2, Modern Warfare 2, and all of the other games listed, is simply ridiculous. I mean, congrats to Robot Studios, but even they should realize that no one that actually knows a thing about gaming will take the list seriously.

Because it is an RTS? You look like one of those fine gentlemen that cry because you can't use Spartans to kill everything in Halo Wars. If you like first person shooters like Left 4 Dead and Modern Warfare 2 that's fine. It doesn't make the games any better than Halo Wars. I do not like any of the games in that genre, but I don't show up at their respective forums to say their spot on this list is not deserved.

    Here's the thing though, Rot.

    • Left 4 Dead is an old game, it came out last year. It's already gotten it's awards, and for the gaming industry no one stays on top forever.
    • Rock Band 2 - as well as the entire music-simulation genre - is an old horse. They dominated for a while, and received several awards already.
    • Modern Warfare 2 JUST came out, and isn't the "Messiah Game" that everyone makes it out to be. It's not going to win too many awards in it's first month, I would be willing to bet.
Just because a section of this community doesn't like Halo Wars doesn't mean that a greater majority worldwide don't like it. The online community is a poor indicator of fans who play. I don't play online, yet I'm still not tired of the campaign, or the skirmish modes. #12 isn't even in the top 10. It's close, but not quite. It's not that horrible of a positioning.

Perhaps it is because there is only a very very small group of people that actually care what year Spartans had shields, and the year HW was set. As crazy as this sounds, perhaps the reviewers judged the game on fun, entertainment and game play, not how savy the devs where with the Halo Universe.

That's where your argument has it's faults. This is the best Xbox 360 game ever, not just this year. They deserve the awards, not Halo Wars.

Actually, I was one of the fine gentlemen that cried because Spartans did triple backflips onto Wraiths and jumped 50 feet into the air to jack aircraft.

    drugiS:
If you like first person shooters like Left 4 Dead and Modern Warfare 2 that's fine. It doesn't make the games any better than Halo Wars.

I'm actually quite the fan of RTS games. I just firmly believe that, as of yet, no RTS on console has been worth buying. The Halo Wars 2007 e3 video release changed my mind about whether or not an RTS could work on console, but as I recall, they scrapped that and started over right after e3.

    drugiS:
I do not like any of the games in that genre, but I don't show up at their respective forums to say their spot on this list is not deserved.

But if you were an avid fan of shooters and also a follower of, let's say Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2 was released and the game just wasn't very good, would you show up and say so? The only reason I am not bringing up other RTS games that should be higher on the list than Halo Wars is because, of the few console RTS games, Halo Wars is the best. However, if you have a group of swordsmen, and one is the best, he shouldn't be competing with tanks.

It isn't like Halo Wars just came out, either. It's almost as old as Left 4 Dead and Rock Band 2.

It wasn't the spot itself that I take issue with, but the games that are ranked below it.

Because it is so much to ask for that simple things like that be fixed. Do you know how long it would have taken to change the words "MAC Blast" to "Archer Strike"? A couple minutes. But even then, as I said, as an RTS, Halo Wars is an ok game, but I'd hardly call it better than some of the games listed below it.

Come off it. Changing that wouldn't cease the whining people are doing about the Canon in HW. Theres a list of trivial things as long as my arm that people complain about. It's not just a simple case of 10 min jobs changing names.

    Re: Congratulations hw

The review score on Halo Wars is understandable.

The review comes off as a "first impression" of Halo Wars, which admittedly does well.

The graphics are nice, the CGIs are awesome, animations are well done, voice acting is superb.  There's nothing memorable about the music, but it's not exactly bad enough to make you want to rip your eardrums out, just good enough for background music.

Almost every single negative aspect of Halo Wars is literally undetectable until you play Multiplayer for at least a hundred matches.  It's only then you begin to pick up on the balance issues and glitches.

Skirmish against the AI won't reveal much, as the AI almost never does a single-unit spam, so it's hard to pick up on anything there.

Only online will anyone notice that there isn't much point in massing mainline infantry.  Only online will anyone notice that single-unit spams runs rampant.  Only online will people be constantly frustrated by the various glitches and bugs in their games.

It's not that these reviews of Halo Wars are being unfair or one-sided, it's just that none of them were written by people who have played the game extensively after the release.
