Because it is an RTS? You look like one of those fine gentlemen that cry because you can't use Spartans to kill everything in Halo Wars.
Actually, I was one of the fine gentlemen that cried because Spartans did triple backflips onto Wraiths and jumped 50 feet into the air to jack aircraft.

If you like first person shooters like Left 4 Dead and Modern Warfare 2 that's fine. It doesn't make the games any better than Halo Wars.
I'm actually quite the fan of RTS games. I just firmly believe that, as of yet, no RTS on console has been worth buying. The Halo Wars 2007 e3 video release changed my mind about whether or not an RTS could work on console, but as I recall, they scrapped that and started over right after e3.

I do not like any of the games in that genre, but I don't show up at their respective forums to say their spot on this list is not deserved.
But if you were an avid fan of shooters and also a follower of, let's say Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2 was released and the game just wasn't very good, would you show up and say so? The only reason I am not bringing up other RTS games that should be higher on the list than Halo Wars is because, of the few console RTS games, Halo Wars is the best. However, if you have a group of swordsmen, and one is the best, he shouldn't be competing with tanks.
Spartan R41:
Here's the thing though, Rot. - Left 4 Dead is an old game, it came out last year. It's already gotten it's awards, and for the gaming industry no one stays on top forever.
- Rock Band 2 - as well as the entire music-simulation genre - is an old horse. They dominated for a while, and received several awards already.
- Modern Warfare 2 JUST came out, and isn't the "Messiah Game" that everyone makes it out to be. It's not going to win too many awards in it's first month, I would be willing to bet.
It isn't like Halo Wars just came out, either. It's almost as old as Left 4 Dead and Rock Band 2.
Spartan R41:
Just because a section of this community doesn't like Halo Wars doesn't mean that a greater majority worldwide don't like it. The online community is a poor indicator of fans who play. I don't play online, yet I'm still not tired of the campaign, or the skirmish modes. #12 isn't even in the top 10. It's close, but not quite. It's not that horrible of a positioning.
It wasn't the spot itself that I take issue with, but the games that are ranked below it.
Arbiter 1337:
Perhaps it is because there is only a very very small group of people that actually care what year Spartans had shields, and the year HW was set. As crazy as this sounds, perhaps the reviewers judged the game on fun, entertainment and game play, not how savy the devs where with the Halo Universe.
Because it is so much to ask for that simple things like that be fixed. Do you know how long it would have taken to change the words "MAC Blast" to "Archer Strike"? A couple minutes. But even then, as I said, as an RTS, Halo Wars is an ok game, but I'd hardly call it better than some of the games listed below it.

They don't have shields, they have a regenerative health bar.
Not according to the game manual, page 26. <http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y297/Rotaretilbo/SpartanswithShields.png>
