kasrkin seath: tmspartan: kasrkin seath: @tmspartan - First of all, the UNSC does not have the technology to launch a NOVA through slipspace and have it land ANYWHERE near its target. The NOVA would likely end up far enough away that it would take several hours, possibly even days to reach Earth, thats if it even exited slipspace and didn't bypass us completely in the process.
We can shoot down missiles/bombs just as easily, if not more easily than the UNSC could. The NOVA could quite easily be destroyed by missiles of our own, or even lasers depending on how advanced our military is compared to what it says right now.
First of all the UNSC does have the technology to launch nuclear warheads through Slipspace, they have done it to the Covenant before.
When?
And they have the technology to do it fairly accurate as well. And if they were going to launch the bomb at Earth, and we shot it down, we would still be screwed because of its explosion, there is no way to stop it from exploding.
First of all, if you 'shot it down' and it was in space, IF the warhead even survived it would be blown severely off course. Also, shooting a nuclear warhead does not set it off. A series of VERY PRECISE explosions are required within it to have it go off properly(and not just fizzle out). This is sompounded in a Nova since it requires many of these to occur precisely at the same time. Simple hitting it with a missile could destroy the warhead or throw these off, which means a small explosion or none at all.
Not to mention that if they were to engage us they would sit outside our missiles range and then bombard us with massive nuclear strikes. We could not shoot down a UNSC ship unless it was in low orbit, otherwise they would see the missile coming and shoot it down.
We could shoot at them with railguns :), or use LOTS AND LOTS of missiles.
First of all, when this thread was made I am guessing it was made to guage the UNSC vs. US ON THE GROUND. Of course the UNSC wins in space, we ALL know this. Instead of repeatedly saying the UNSC wins because of space, how about trying to argue why they win on the ground.
Couple of things of course...
First the UNSC have precisely launched a nuclear warhead at a Covenant base in the Pegasi Delta system. Covenant shot it down, but that's not the point.
Second I doubt the US would even see the warhead coming, considering we don't have radiation monitors in space, and anything that small wouldn't phase astronomers or other scientists into informing the US military. And by the time it was noticed it would've hit the ground already.
And finally the UNSC could bombard Earth with thousands of nuclear warheads and missiles before we could even organize a decision for use of nuclear weapons.
Oh and if the post was about UNSC ground forces against US ground forces, it should have been stated in the original post, and it should have been named "UNSC vs US", because in this case it is the Covenant, Flood, UNSC, and Forerunners, or Precursors; against the US.
So the actual argument should be who would win all the above mentioned forces or the US? And that's not even an argument...it's a fact.
"Die?"Kurt laughed."Didn't you know?"he told the Elite. "...Spartans never die."
