As for the carry-over, we don't know if they use todays military as a model for size, but I sincerely doubt they would.
    Why wouldn't they ??

I never insulted anyone. Also, destroyers have two MAC Cannons (At least the Iriqois, anyway.), where as cruisers have one (As far as we have been told). Therefore, destroyers would be bigger. Debunked and disproven.

Edit: The sarcasm was of the people that try to authenticate information by saying a family member or someone they know works at Bungie, and told them <Information X>. As for the carry-over, we don't know if they use todays military as a model for size, but I sincerely doubt they would.

There are different sizes for Mac Guns. And destoryers I dought arean't bigger, it's like getting two pencils and putting them on the side of a rubber.

They wouldn't because this is different. It might be the navy, but this is space, not the ocean.

Just a question, What are the major differences between a carrier and a cruiser beyond the big cannon ? Weaponry to support ground forces ? Otherwise general specifications on the different ship types would be nice.

Chances are it's a Battalion or Division

Re: UNSC Spirit of Fire (CFV-88)-What type of ship?

Well its going to be a pretty damn big ship no-matter what exactly it is. The Pillar of Autumn (ship in Halo 1) was said to be one of the smallest ships in the 'cruiser' class, and even that is over a Km in length.

Assuming those seen in the trailler all come from the SoF it is capable of transporting and deploying at least:

    1. 8 Scorpian tanks
    2. 9 warthogs
    3. 2 unidentified UNSC dropships
    4. 30 marines
    5. 5 Spartan II soldiers
    6. 5 Pelican dropships
    7. 5 unidentified UNSC figher craft

And obviously a whole lot more than that, considering it was just one battle.

Re: UNSC Spirit of Fire (CFV-88)-What type of ship?

Question is, how much can a carrier carry ? and how much a cruiser ? We saw that the Pillar of autumn was capable of carrying quite the crew, and as said, it wasn't the biggest.

Re: UNSC Spirit of Fire (CFV-88)-What type of ship?

Wow guys...thanks for the replys....I am a reader of much of todays military stuff and thus was eager to find out what type of sip the UNSC Spirit of Fire was. Anyway, I think its most likely Carrier, but if it is, it is going to need a fleet to protect it. as they are somewhat vulnerable to the Covenant fleet. Keep the theories coming people and remember : Cyberkindess! :)

Re: UNSC Spirit of Fire (CFV-88)-What type of ship?

I know I am kind of late to this discussion but I am just going to say what I want to say anyway...lol

I think it has to be a carrier.

Obviously this ship has gone WAY WAY outside maped space, it is most likely (as someone has probably stated and I mised) and expeditionary force.  Its main mission is probably just to find new worlds and stuff (like the Star Ship Interprise from star Trek).

I think they came preparred for whatever they may meet, but they havent met any "aliens" yet (since this is the first conntact).  So I think we are looking at a BIG carrier, it has to support all those troops, and vehicles comfortably and have a lot of food, water and the like.

Ait support probably wasnt a big issue to them, since they had no idea what they were going to find, and plus I doubt the rebel forces they thought they might encounter, (assuming there are rebal forces at this time) wouldnt be to much of a problem and thus they didnt have a lot of fighter ships.

Re: UNSC Spirit of Fire (CFV-88)-What type of ship?

That weight class is shared with the crusers and carriers since in space carriers could weigh like a frigate but the get the large size due to their fighter squadrons, and the crusiers are maily very large destroyers with what is believed to have two MACs also and carry a Regiment to two of them daily

and remeber in the book keyes mentions that the UNSC was ppulling back the cursers since only 20 were left leaving to speculation to say that the UNSC just through the ships at every problem including the covies

Oh and only reason the carrier is the largest is since the BB is a outdated class un able to keep up with modern warfare on the high seas explaining that the UNSC hasent but a mothership class or the covies
