    Re: RTS on 360?

As far as I can remember, not a single RTS has done well on consoles. Also, since Halo got the port to PC (and it's rumored that Halo 2 is comming also) maybe we'll see Halo wars on the PC and the gamers who didn't get a 360 yet (hi.) could still play?

I am very glad that the days of RTS on a PC only are over.  Ever since LOTRBFMEII was released for the Xbox 360 months back, ive really enjoyed RTS games more.

The controls and gameplay will work for the Xbox 360, LOTR is proof in the pudding.

Also, its not a rumor that Halo 2 is coming to PC.  Its been a known fact for MONTHS now.  Please go to bungie.net and click on Halo 2 Vista!

Yes, personally I feel that BFME2 is an awsome game.  The only drawbacks are no hero maker and no mapeditor.  I think that BFME2 proves that an RTS can survive and live on the consoles, if done right.

    Re: RTS on 360?

Why do you think RTS games have failed onconsoles? I'll tell you why, it's  because any RTS released on a console was a cheap port.  Most companies couldn't be  arsed to  design  a decent control system (I'm surprised EA were the first company to do it properly..). But then you have the typical EA... Taking out  certain features... (Custom Hero)  and limiting game play... (2v2  max WTF?! and lets not forget the 750 population cap?)

Considering this is being designed on an xbox 360, we should be easily seeing 6v6 games on Halo Wars. I'm also cetain that they will not cheap out on anything, I mean cmon... It is Bungie...! Not EA!

    Re: RTS on 360?

The population cap in BFME2 is 1200, not 750.

    Re: RTS on 360?

If you read the FAQ, you see that this is designed from the ground up as a 360 game so it is perfect for the console and it's controles. (bungie agrees). No compromizes had to be made.

    Re: RTS on 360?

I agree that LoTR was great on the 360. The new C&C game will be available on 360, as well as others besides Halo Wars. With this demand, I heard a rumour that MS are making a Mouse for the 360. If true, this should make RTS games on the 360 even better.

    Re: RTS on 360?

I've not played any RTS on a console; I'm curious to see how they develop the control system from the ground up. Plus, I'd imagine as Halo Wars is based on the FPSs, they'll be coming up with a different view point or something....maybe like Battlezone or something entirely new.........should be interesting, I just hope they don't do a cheap cash-in on the Halo franchise.

Dude, where did you hear about C&C being on the 360?  Do you have a link?  Becuase if it is, I'll be getting it.

    Re: RTS on 360?

ES can do it if anyone can.  They have been innovative and unique with all of their games.  If anyone can make an RTS work on a console, ES can.

Re: Xbox360 Exclusive == Not smart for RTS games?

I was wondering how gamers were going to take the RTS console news.

Personally I dislike RTS games but I might be willing to try one out on a console.  RTS is such a huge genre that it can easily support multiple styles, ones that lend themselves better to a PC and those that take advantage of the more social, living room experience of a console.  Saying that you need a keyboard/mouse to be more precise is already making assumptions about the game play and what you'll need to do to play it.  If you start feeling the need to have a mouse/keyboard then they have failed.

My only fear in picking Ensemble to develop the game is that they *have* developed a RTS.  There needs to be a re-thinking of what a RTS can be and I would hate for Halo Wars to be just a repackaged/rebranded version of Ensemble's other RTS games.  Yippy, a new map/skin pack on top of their other game with one or two twists thrown in.  Blech.  I think the more hard-core, PC-only RTS gamers they offend the better they are doing.  So many gamers complain about a lack of innovation in the industry yet when companies *do* try to do something different people riot.

To make this post on-topic, I dislike exclusives of any sort.  I hate when games come out only for the PS and I imagine PS owners feel the same in return.  On the other hand I don't want games to be a lowest common denominator that are coded to insure they can be played on any console.  Each consoles offers completely unique ways of approaching game design and reducing them down to a common base tends to deprive consoles owners of any edge their console may have.

Re: Xbox360 Exclusive == Not smart for RTS games?

Obviously they want to boost sales for 360, but also it's because the 360 beats pretty much every PC to date, meaning they'd have to scale down the game big time. As for Halo 2 to Vista, Xbox only has a 733Mhz processer, 128mb RAM, and a really cheap video card, making it possible to port xbox games to pc with ease, and no scaling down on the game.

I've seen that a few have already mentioned BFME2 as an RTS, isn't it also a turn based game? Haven't played it

myself so am not sure. Hopefully Halo Wars won't be.

Obviously you don't understand the power of ES and bungie two great devs that will actually bring new life into the RTS world
