Re: reasons why not many people play halo wars

MyAbsolution:Arbiter 1337 stated why perfectly.Hell even if you do compare this game to others you'd be shocked to know how few play them online. Uncharted 2 has like no more than 8000 people online at any given time, and that game just came out a couple weeks ago, where-as halo wars came out like 9 months ago and is a CONSOLE RTS, not a shooter, and has more or less the same amount of people playing online. And the super units don't fail, people just don't know how to use them properly, or situationally... if odst murdered everything then how balanced would that be? they aren't meant to be uber omg pwn.

HWars is the only console RTS that still has >200 people online at all times.

Arbiter 1337:Now, the remaining few that want to play strategy games, that want to learn, and want to press on though the learning curve come across the biggest killer of all; the rushing! Rushing is imediately frowned upon by begginers because they see it as the easy option, the lack of skill instant win strategy. Begginners do not know how to beat a rush, and can't see any possible way to beat it, this turns away a good 60% of players new to RTS. The ones that remain must now try and learn to beat this rush, and again, its super tough to them, it's has a steep learning curve, and they see no progress at all. They will fail to beat every rush until they finally learn how to, which can take many many games. This again turns away alot of players.

i agree rushing is a big stopper but once you get past it you love it!

I accually never had a problem with it im pretty laid back playing RTS games so when I got rushed for the first time I thought "lol, wow, that's a really good idea" and started doing rushes myself. took me awhile to get a build for a rush before 5 mintues and to relize that setting a rally point on the telporter was possiable but I got it!

    Laid back!?!

I've seen your videos, you can't keep sitll, your like a Gazel on steroids. Do you take Riddlein?

that's because my diet constists of monster energy drinks and sour patch, it's a wonder im still skinny and not 500 pounds overweight, lol

also monster energy drinks somtimes give me stomach aches anyone know why, im to lazy to look up myself.

water is your friend, not energy drinks.

I only drink like 4 energy drinks a week adn anything else is all water beacuse other than monster I only like to drink water

xLt Hazardx:     There are no REAL reasons why this game, (Halo Wars), has slowly become irritating rather than b-cuz the Covenant Leaders are just a tad bit too powerful. It seems that no matter what strategy a UNSC happens to pull out their ass, a single Covenant Leader and a few troops can dominate the human targets. This one major flaw is what is killing the game. If i hear ANYONE *** about Anders kicking their ass, then you just *** suck, because a UNSC is a pushover, and all i play as is UNSC

Haha, this was a good/funny read.

    Aloysius:I'm just curious about this:

What do you guys think we should do about resigners?

Before you get too into this, I'm pretty sure we're not going to do anything about it, but I'm just curious what you guys think would be okay.

We cannot remove points for resigning, that'd never ever happen, but what other "punishments"?

I don't think it's a big deal. People play Deathmatch to get points; people play Standard for a more strategic game.

    featherygiraffe:

    super units

are way too over used and take away from the fun of the game , and makeing an army of odst's isn't very strategical or wise

    resigning

even when one person resigns it just messes up the whole game , its no fun

    spamming units

just the whole game makeing one unit , its annoying and stupid

i think if all of us stopped doing this it would call everyone back to the game and would make it more popular

    it's a cough RTS cough

resigning counts as self-destructing, therefore when the enemy resigns you split the points from his base and remaining units with your teammates. I thought this going to be included in the last TU... I was very disapointed... :(

This thread is your opinion rather than fact. Your intent was to let us know why not a lot of people play this game and you failed your only objective. Nice job.

Re: reasons why not many people play halo wars

Is there a way to tally resigning?  maybe you could add some kind of reputation, make it kinda like true skill but base it off how other people enjoyed playing with you.  Sometimes in 2v2 or 3v3 people will block your units with there's (happens in crevice the most) or the odd PoR player will just start beaming my army =/ (that really gets me mad).  It would be cool to add like a rating system for your teammates.

Then STFU and play as the covenant.  I didn't *** about Gauss Hogs until I spammed them in 3 vs 3 UA and won over 75% of my games with them, even with all 3 sides were spamming counters for them.

Once you start seeing those Canister tanks wipe out your covie leader in half a second, you might change your tune a bit.

Maybe then you'll see that the UNSC isn't a pushover, but rather it's you who suck against the Covie.

cryoglitch is starting to piss me off

    *** teammates/resigners

    everything is played out.

i barely get to play anymore, and i loved the game at its peak, but there aren't enough good players left, and sadly the game is dying. as soon as i get my general (i'm ~250K away, i could knock that out in a couple days if I had the time to play) i'm off to play... probably borderlands.

Re: reasons why not many people play halo wars

Cryo glitch is definitely a b*tch.

The occasional scouting every 2-3 minutes is only going to catch it if you're lucky during that 30 second timeframe that it takes to pull it off.  It also takes hit and run tactics completely out of the equation with no reactor to destroy.  Oh, and good luck stopping it with 2-3 Anders on the opposing team.

However, that's not really the biggest turnoff of the game.  There are various other glitches around that are equally as frustrating, such as the Arbiter dying as he passes over terrain or even simple bases in Rage mode(nothing pisses me off more than losing my 2-3 star arbiter due to something so stupid), or the freeze glitch with suicide grunts, and I even swore that one time I tried to fire off a MAC shot, nothing happened and I couldn't exit out of the MAC firing window(had to quit the match because nothing worked no matter what buttons I mashed on).

The biggest turnoff IMO is an almost complete lack of rigorous testing and balance changes.  I mean, I think it's kind of ridiculous that nobody noticed that Grunts(well, none of the developers anyways, because I sure as hell saw it a mile away) don't counter air because of a tiny little mistake.  It took 8 months to catch this little detail when it would've only taken 5 minutes for one(or two) of the devs to spam out 50 grunts against 25 Banshees and compare their performance against each other.  It also takes about 2-3 months for each title update for a small tweak to the units.
