Sure because there is a lot of fighting that takes place underwater nowadays.  Did you know that every nuclear armed sub is what, the 5th or so most powerful nuclear arsenal in the world? 

i would like to imagine that the things that are powered by the nuclear reactors he maintains are probably useful in war/ combat probably make your life easier somehow.

not really sure what either of you are defending the US from right now.
