GuiltySpark617:Ok my ideas its gonna take a while.....
I'm all ears.
GuiltySpark617:1. walls are your friend.
Unless you allow them to lull yourself into a false sense of security, thinking that you don't have to worry about certain areas of the map because there are walls there; but in general, yes, I agree.
GuiltySpark617:Laser wall for the Covies, an invisible barb wire(surrounded by mines) fence for the humans.
Erm...laser walls? The Covenant doesn't use laser technology. It uses plasma technology. However, even so, I'd expect Covenant walls to be conventional, though their allows can take more of a beating than a UNSC wall. And invisible barbed wire? The UNSC has very little mastery over the invisible. I'd actually expect two walls from the UNSC. A cheap, easy to build ploycrete wall with low HP, and a more expensive, slower building steel reinforced wall with high HP. Building on the concept of two types of walls, I'd expect the Covenant to have shield barrier walls (these would be based around the deployable cover technology, but more square) which would be fast and cheap, but extremely easy to disable (and almost worthless against vehicles), but would have the advantage of recharing if not fully destroyed, and an alloy wall which would be highly resistant to enemy fire (having a higher HP than the UNSC steel reinforced wall). To balance this advantage, the UNSC would also (as seen in the demo) be able to put defensive structures on top of their walls, whereas the Covenant would not.
GuiltySpark617:2.a stealthed APC (armored personal carrier) with a mortar on top and 2 turrets on bot sides for both factions.
There is little evidence that either faction has managed to create this sort of stealthed vehicle. Further, by creating a direct match of a vehicle for factions that is very different from each other, you lose some of the realism and intricate balancing.
GuiltySpark617:3.low orbit, stealthed, planetary bombardment ship (small ehough to be on SoF) for both factions.
Very into invisibility, I see. Well, the UNSC and Covenant don't really need this. The Banshee is the Covenant's all in one aircraft, and the ShortSword is the UNSC bomber.
GuiltySpark617:4.squad custumization options so you can make a squad of like 2 snipers, 3 close combat, rifleman, and machine gunner or for thier armor.
This type of squad customization defeats the purpose of having squads rather than individual units.
GuiltySpark617:Here is an explantation why the flood wont be in this game (hopefully im wrong!!)
Sadly, there are still people who think it would be canonical for the Flood to appear in Halo Wars' single player campaign on Harvest.
GuiltySpark617:1.They haven't found Halo yet.
True.
GuiltySpark617:2. Halo isn't found so Captain Keyes wont awaken them.
Well, technically the Covenant broke containment. Keyes and his actions merely acted as a catalyst for what the Covenant had accidentally started.
GuiltySpark617:3. High Charity isnt affected so the flood cant launch disspersol pods
Well, these all seem to go hand in hand, no don't they? Really, it is one reason why the Flood won't appear in the single player campaign, and that is because neither the UNSC nor the Covenant have encountered the Flood, because the Flood are only inately present on the seven Halo installations, of which Installation 04, discovered in 2552, was the first, whereas Halo Wars occurs in 2531.
GuiltySpark617:Hopefully ES has overlooked these reasons and has put the Flood in.
Hopefully not into campaign, but I would quite like to see the Flood in skirmish.
GuiltySpark617:Please feel free to post you opinions and ideas!
Don't mind if I do.
Redlightning:Eh, i'll let somebody else criticize since I gotta go eat in about a minute.
Allow me.
Vigil:Nice to meet you Guilty spark.
Agreed. It is, indeed, nice to meet you, GS617.
Vigil:I see walls as I possibilty, as they did appear in the E3 gameplay video, but things more than likely have changed since that 10 minute presentation. I would be a nice addition though.
Walls are a very important part of the strategic part of the RTS genre. RTS, unlike FPS and RPG, is not about rushing and killing as much as strategizing. It can still be fast paced and have walls.
Vigil:We did used to have a UNSC APC called the cougar, but it was cut. Probably as it was just a more armoured warthog. I sadly think stealthed APC's are a little unfair, as you could fill a couple with some troops, get into your opponents base, and completetly decimate. Seems a little unfair.
If they made stealth troop transports, both factions would need units/structures that could detect stealthed units.
Vigil:Why would you want to bombard the planet from space? I does help, but it will proabably only be a power of some sort. Why not have aerial raids and bombardments?
Agreed. Just use the UNSC Spirit of Fire's MAC bombardment action if you want space bombardment.
Vigil:The ammount of micro-management that would need woiuld be insane, I think seperate units would be simpler.
Another good point.
Vigil:True, 2552 was the first encounter for the UNSC and the flood. The covenant have met them before, but if they appeared it would strain the canon as the UNSC would be there too and the flood aren't known to stay in one place.
I don't know if we have any concrete evidence that the Covenant have met the Flood before. They are mentioned in the holy writs, but I don't think there has ever been a direct encounter, seeing as how Installation 04 is the first holy ring discovered intact (I like the believe that the ring the Lekgolo are discovered to have eaten was another of the Installations).
Vigil:The covenant opened the door. They just reopened it.
Agreed.
Vigil:High Charity happened way after the flood was unleashed, and those were the flood of Installation 05.
Agreed.
Vigil:I don't think they should be in as I think that conflicts to much with the halo canon. I'm sorry but that's my opinion.
In the respect of campaign, I agree 100%. However, since the timeline does not necessarily affect skirmish, I do want to see the Flood in skirmish.
Ferret:stupid tard, and if you dont agree than ur just like him <-------------
Well, I don't agree, so I guess that makes me a stupid tard. Bug off, if you would be so kind.
Vigil:Unlike some people, I like to help other members and listen to their opinions, even if they are misguided.
Be tolerant of other members.
I agree, 100%.
Redlightning:You should probably remove some of those "lol"s too, as it elongates your post's a little too much.
Indeed they do.
GuiltySpark617:new idea orbital drop pods for the ODSTs (im not sure if they already put them in or not)
The ODST HEVs are believed to be one of the four powers seen in the demo when Graeme goes to select MAC bombardment.
Vigil:Been discussed. Would be a fun addition to the game.
I find myself agreeing with you quite a bit, Grey 12.
GuiltySpark617:yeah watching pods rain on the covies and ODSTs bursting out full auto. oh yeah wut bout the elite pods?
If they do include ODST HEVs, they will probably also have Elite Spec Ops drop pods as well.
Vigil:Vaguely remember it was brought up. Never mind. If you have ODST drop pods, it would be a nice counter balance.
It would almost be a necessary counter-balance.
GuiltySpark617:yeah imagine 3 hogs, and a wolverine riden in a canyon and out of nowhere 12 pods fall out of the sky and elites come out then 2 banshees come out over the walls
The Wolverine would probably have time to take out at least one of the Banshees, and the Hogs would probably be able to handle most of the Elites. Hogs also do decentish air damage, so the other Banshee would be toast. UNSC, of course, would likely lose the Wolverine and at least one Hog.
R.T. Larry:Now imagine those vehicles having a field day with all that...debris falling from the atmosphere. don't forget, all those vehicles have an anti-aircraft weapons, especially the wolverine.
Exactly.
GeneralCopyact:Some people just don't think about it, Flood doesn't have to be in Campain they can be in Skrimage battles.
Same with Forerunners, it doesn't have to affect the storyline and it can't if there in Skrimage battles only.
Also it doesn't matter if High Charity isn't affected and they don't need disspersol pods.
[shamelessplug]http://www.halowars.com/forums/thread/176269.aspx[/shameless plug]
Rasq'uire'laskar:Not the first one to come up with this. If there's going to be walls, it will probably be a conventional wall, not a Helm's Deep or a barb-wire fence.
Definately agree.
Rasq'uire'laskar:Can each side get the same PWNZER tank too?
The point of an RTS is to have vehicles that serve a variety of roles, and no one vehicle is good at everything. Also, to enhance gameplay, no two sides should have the exact same type of vehicle. Finally, how would such a large vehicle be stealthed?
Why not just add a PWNZER tank turret to the stealthed APC? :p
Rasq'uire'laskar:Or just have the SoF fire a volley of Archer Missiles at the planet's surface. Note my statement about not giving each side the same stuff.
A Mac bombardment verse a plasma barrage would be different enough. Plasma would do more damage, but the MAC would have a wider area of effect.
Rasq'uire'laskar:Or just have multiple squads. Although this would be neat, the other choice would involve less micro.
If you want this type of gameplay, just stick with producing individual units.
Rasq'uire'laskar:Why? So the game could be riddled with plot holes? Honestly, we've been fighting the Flood for three games now. Its about time that we got the game that is strictly Humans VS Covenant. The Flood may appear in Multiplayer, but Bungie is helping ES with the campaign, so don't count on the Flood showing up.
Exactly.
SPC COMMANDO:Forerunners couldnt be in the game because there are not enough units for them. youd have sentinals, sentinal majors, sentinal constructors, and maybe a monitor. and all of that wouldnt stand a chance against 1 guy with a spartan laser. or scorpion if the lasers not in the game
[shamelessplug]http://www.halowars.com/forums/thread/174734.aspx[/shamelessplug]
reincarN8ed:First, too much stealthed crap. Not cool.
While harsh, I do agree, to some extent.
reincarN8ed:Walls suck and in a war with vehicles and weapons that can obliterate buildings, would be useless.
Oddly enough, walls make appearances in just about every single mainstream RTS game in existence (with one notable exception: StarCraft).
reincarN8ed:Custom squads: too much micro-managment. Takes away from gameplay.
Agreed.
reincarN8ed:As for the Flood, I've already covered the why and how to put them into the game. Check out "100,000-year-old Factions."
Personally, I think that sticking with one storyline for now, and inserting the Flood and possibly the Sentinels into skirmish would be efficient.
reincarN8ed:Keyes didn't release the Flood. "Oh those Covenant fools! They must've know, there must've been signs!" -Cortana. 343 Guilty Spark also mentions something about the Covenant being reckless and releasing the Flood.
True.
reincarN8ed:Sorry to shoot down everything you just said, but that's how I roll.
:p
reincarN8ed:Wow you're a dumbass. This isn't Halo 3, it's Halo
Wars, and Ensemble could easily add more units to the Forerunner race. They did it with the Human and Covenant races.
And there won't be a single guy that's an uber-pwner like Master Chief. This is an RTS, not and FPS. It's about multiple, equally matched units, not one hulking behemoth with massive BFG's that can take on entire platoons by himself.
Think before you post.
There are ways to get your point across without resorting to petty insults, which add little to your argument other than to make you look like a jerk. Take your own advice.
killer! Grunt!:I agree that the flood should be in skirmish mode though, it would make for some interesting game times (survival, a kind of infection varient?). I also like the idea of "wild" flood packs roaming around in some mp maps
I'd put a shameless plug here, but I already have a shameless plug to my Flood thread. :p
Sparhawk:LOL, don't be so harsh.
Agreed.
Sparhawk:Hhhhmmm... they could work in skirmish or in their own game. An expansion for them maybe?
I'd love to see them in a sequel and/or expansion.
reincarN8ed:Sorry. All i know is harsh. Brutally Honest.
Tact is a virtue.
reincarN8ed:I'd like to see the Flood and Forerunner in skirmish. I'd love to see them in a seperate storyline to get some backstory and what not. If they are in an expansion, it'd better be over XBLM and not a seperate disk.
If you have to pay for it either way, then it doesn't matter much to me. Getting up and getting it is just as much a hassle for me as acquiring MS Points.
ChucklesSpartan:^ yes, don't be so harsh......
I'm putting my money on DLC
okay, I'm not putting my money on it, but in the recent interview (the not music one) they talked about DLC
Only time will tell, but we can hope.
The Great Kiewefrog:The cool thing is that if ODST aren't in Halo Wars for some insane reason, they'll be in Starcraft II. If you go to there sight (
www.starcraft2.com) then you can read it. But there's can fit multiple troops and are loaded on the ground.
Lol.
SPC COMMANDO:you know, if im such a dumb*** than why is it that i can spell an and REINCARNATED correctly.
On the other hand, he knows when and when not to apply caps lock. :p
SPC COMMANDO:and i didnt say that it would be one big hulking unit, i just said that any idiot with a spartan laser could kill the monitor, or any of the previously mentioned units. and im pretty sure Johnson isnt a big hulking figure, hes just a guy with a spartan laser. And i do think before i post, which is why i, unlike you, have not yet been told to LIGHTEN UP!
Sure, a unit with a Spartan Laser could kill any one Sentinel unit. But, conversely, a unit with a Spartan Laser could also kill any one Covenant unit (with a single exception: the Scarab). By your logic, the Covenant aren't good enough to be in the game.
SPC COMMANDO:if harsh is all you know, then go beat up somebody on xbox live, maybe you could find some noob whos worse than you even if there is only 1
Where would we be without OMGUS? Oh, that's right! A better Interwebz.
The Great Kiewefrog:Ok, this is TOTALLY off topic I'm sorry, it just had to be announced. I was playing custom games on H3 and was playing a game named this....
Map:LALALAND
Game type: Hardcore Doom
...
SPC COMMANDO:what map was it?
Don't encourage him.
TNine:The only thing that could kill a monitor is a Spartan Laser. All projectiles and plasma is practically useless.
And Johnson is a pretty ***ing good soldier, and even he didn't stand a chance. Go play Halo (The level) on legendary without use of the bubble shield then tell me monitors are puchovers.
Don't forget the Onyx sentinels. Only a few took out a ship bigger than a pelican. Almost as strong as sentinels.
...I actually did beat Halo (the level) on Legendary without a bubble shield. But point taken. :p
BBJynne:he doesn't even shoot at you
all he does is talk and push you against the door you came through
He sure shot at me. Quite a bit. And his laser does quite a bit of damage, though I was lucky enough to keep out of the way well enough to stay alive. He pushed me off the catwalk, on my first try.
SPC COMMANDO:man, i did beat halo the level on legendary without using the bubble shield. it still took me four shots and i never got hit by his laser. you know why? because i dont stand still and let him shoot me. i wait for him to charge his gun, yes you can hear it, then jump or sidestep, its not that hard, probably the easiest enemy to kill ive ever killed, even grunts are harder because they move, hide, and shoot accurately
So, tell me. What button in Halo Wars will be for sidestep? And what about jump aside?
TNine:Really? I get pwned on Heroic without a bubble shield. Cant' get a clear shot for five seconds. But i guess the correct A.I. would be non-combative.
Someone needs to play Halo 3 more. :p
SPC COMMANDO:if you get pwned on legendary i have a few questions for you,
1. is your controller working?
2. are you standing still?
3. is your name (TNINE) mean that you are 9 years old and having your older brother typing this for you?
If any of the above are true, i am not judging you, but if they arent true and you still get pwned by the monitor then you must really have issues with your controller. Do you only have one hand? that might be the problem.
Ironically, SPC was just earlier telling someone else not to be harsh or bitter. How I love irony.
Donavonm:lol !!! kill him with the rofl nife it goes slice slice sliec

SPC COMMANDO:............................................?
For once, we agree.
rogue spartan 444:??????????????????
Lol, I guess he successfully defused the situation with his nonsense.
blackout131:Back on topic (sort of). sorry, but the forruners won't be in HW, no DLC, no nothing. their weakest footsoldiers were 7x as strong as MC.
plus, they strictly believed in the mantal, where they were meant to preserve life, they would never attack covenant, or, especially, humans.
Sentinels, on the other hand, have no problem attacking humans if they deam them a threat, which is why I like a Sentinel-based faction. Besides, it is better if the Forerunner remain shrouded in mystery.
Sparhawk:You're not the only one wondering WTF.
Lol.
Spartan15:None of that made any sense Donavonm
I love how a single off topic post can derail a thread.
Sparhawk:Agreed. But what if they saw the covenant attacking the humans...wouldn't they want to protect the humans?
Exactly...no forerunner for Halo Wars, however the flood is a possibility in MP.
Sentinels would be doable in skirmish, but not the original Forerunner.
Sparhawk:lol.
Was it really necessary to make a whole new post for that?
Spartan15:Well then id be worried if the covenants started attacking us. I mean we wouldnt have any way to defend ourselves really.
What about...with guns?
