Ha, I foresaw this deadly reaction happening when we were first told about the upcoming DLC.
It's a complete farse charging for game modes/maps. Especially when it's costing something ridiculous like 800mp for 2Mb!
This is scandalous behaviour on both Robot and Microsoft's behalf. Of course I have no idea of how the process works (and I would certainly like for a member of Robot to enlighten us as to how the DLC pricing process works) but when Robot learned about the price tag that was being attached to it, they should have been pushing to release this "content" as an update instead.
I also strongly feel that the new upcoming maps should also BE FREE. People are saying that Robot and Microsoft are running a business and not a charity, well excuse me, but you are being naive.
When you pay full RRP for an RTS title and you begin to become bored with the game 2 months after its release because it only comes with 14 maps, then this game does not have enough content for it to be warranted as a good release. It is disturbingly becoming common practice amongst developers, in this world of readily accesible internet, to release games that are a bit light on the content side and then offer what should be part of the initial package as Downloadable Content.
If I am to pay everything that is asked of me for this game I will have spent close to an extra €20 on content. This will push this game into the €80 bracket (€100 if I was silly enough to purchase the special edition) for a title that is really not worth that much. For €60 I would expect that I would get MORE than just two single game modes in my new title and a wide variety of maps to play on. I would have no problem paying €10 for this content and an extra €10 for maps if the game was initially €40, but this whole situation just stinks of money grubbing greed.
RTS maps are not difficult to design, model and test. They are almost the simplest form of model making and there is no excuse for Ensemble not to have issued more maps with the initial release.
I AM SICK OF BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AS A VIDEO GAME CONSUMER AND BEING ASKED TO PAY MORE MONEY FOR CONTENT THAT SHOULD BE ISSUED ON THE ORIGINAL DISC.
THIS IS BECOMING MORE COMMON PLACE, ESPECIALLY ON XBOX LIVE AND IT MUST STOP.
I will not even consider purchasing these game modes and I will not be purchasing any of the new map packs unless they contain at least another 10-12 maps
And neither should you. Be smart with your money. Do not just pay the first amount you are asked to hand over because that is what someone else wants you to pay, not what you should pay.
