Re: Reason HaloGen Had to Cease and Desist?

    The answer is obvious.

Re: Reason HaloGen Had to Cease and Desist?

Well it was in violation with certain copyrights, and there is this game coming, halo 3, and a unnamed one, i think that's all the reason they needed.

    HaloGen

I was showing off this game on another forums and a person there said that on ANOTHER forum someone started a topic on Halo Wars but had the opening post like this:

Recently at X06, the game Halo Wars was announced. Sounds great right? A way for Bungie to get thier real vision of the Halo franchise! And incase you dont know, Halo was orringally planned as an RTS game.

Except the recently announced Halo Wars game is nothing but a scheme that was stolen from aspiring independant modders, and its nothing but a money making scandal.

First off, lets start off this note with the fact that Bungie (the creators of Halo) are NOT creating this game. Who is? Pretty much Microsoft, seeing as they are in complete controll of the franchise now, and are the ones who are responsibe for the recent shut down of the mod HaloGen, by a bunch of guys on thier free time who like to call themselves SlipStream Productions.

    Offical HaloGen website: http://halogen.slipstreamproductions.net/ (gasp!)

    Offical HaloGen Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPlbE...elated&search=

    So what happened here?

HaloGen was a project that was in development for 3 full years, and even supported by Bungie (creators of Halo) themselves for the game C&C Generals.

Recently, Microsoft (NOT BUNGIE) ordered a cease+desist for the HaloGen project. Thats 3 years of work down the drain.

Microsoft INSISTS that the recent Halo Wars game (which idea's were influenced by HaloGen and Bungie's support for HaloGen) had nothing to do with the shutting down for the HaloGen game. Everyone pretty much agree's this is bull$#@!, along wiht M$ desiciton to steal idea's, and even EA's Preditor (EA community manager for RTS department) belives this to be WRONG and for it to not even hurt sales of Halo products.

Kinda suspicious. I honestly don't care about this HaloGen thing alot as long as it's turns out to be a good game.

Halogen was taking Bungies IP.  That is a no-no, I would have done the same thing if I was going to use my IP for the same type of genre.

    Re: HaloGen

That does suck but im sure everybody believes that Halo Wars will be a much better game than Halo Gen just because Halo Wars has a whole team of proffesional developers behind it. So in the end we really end up with a better game.

    Re: HaloGen

It's unfortunate, but it is what happens when you make a third party mod based on a huge hit such as the HALO series. It seemed to me like the guys at Bungie (atleast, the people who were around when HALO was still an RTS) wanted to see their game be made as it was originally intended. It could have been done with HaloGen, but that would require people to purchase Command & Conquer: Generals...meaning Bungie's idea, and in the long run, EA's profit.

They didn't steal a thing from us independant modders, since Halo as an RTS has been around since the begining, we always knew we didn't have the most original idea, it was just fun to make, and a good setting for hellish battles.

    Re: HaloGen

No profit would have been made, and they didnt steal a single thing... This would have been a more formal RTS and the only Halo RTS on the PC... Its just Microsoft just proibibly thinks that Halogen was going to be sold, money was going to be made, and other stuff

So this is why HaloGen was asked to be cancelled....

HaloGen was an RTS mod for Command and Conquer Generals that was based on Halo, that looked pretty damn good and was worked on for a couple years if I remember right, until they were asked by MS and Bungie to stop the project. Sicne then I knew there was going to be a Halo RTS, since it was very different from an FPS. The HaloGen team is trying to scrape off the Halo referances and then release it. I feel sorry for them, they were nearly finished.

Just a small rant about this.

    Hi all,

You may know me, you may not but lemme just tell you a small story.

I was the leader of the Halo: Retreat and Retaliation mod for DoW, we also had other sister project such as the HaloGen mod for CnC Generals. One day Microsoft sent the old "Cease and Desist" order to HaloGen after 3 years of hard work from that team, we all took inspiration from this mod, and they were just about to release when they recieved the order.

Now our mods we non-profit, fan-based mods which we tried to pay tribute to the Halo universe. Now before you guys say something like "ha ha, well you should have expected this" attempts were made by both teams to contact both Microsoft and Bungie. I personally made 3 attempts. We never recieved replys from either. So we decided to continue. Now after a few years our work is now wasted. I have even recently contacted MS's IP department and they gave me the worst and most stupid email reply ever. (If you wanna see it, visit our forum)

So basically i just wanted to give a warning, if Ensemble Studios is acting without either company backing them, then they will be screwed. If you havent got the backing then stop now. If you have then by all means continue.
