That just makes no sense at all, not to mention you'd expect a more mature reaction from a community moderator.
This comment could have come from a 10 year old.

No need to start crying. It was probably just a joke.

Nobody! It looks like the reviewers really enjoyed the game. Just because the forum people are angry that they don't have image signatures anymore doesn't mean that Halo Wars isn't a great game.

    Childish response. No surprise there.

Our  qualms have always been 95% with the balancing, bugs, DLC, pathfinding, and complete lack of polish. 5% about general foruming BS.

I wouldn't take it to personally.

I really do not understand why this happy thread turned into a topic where everyone starts bitching about the game. #12 is well deserved, congratulations Ensemble and Robot!

    2Hawks1Anders:
Also balancing is done in there and they fixed a lot of stuff but it gets slipped out because you act like they are super 1337 gamers. There developers and they create the game it comes out we play it and tell them what they missed then they go back and try and fix it.

I would just like to note that it is a developer's business to be good at balancing, so you don't have to be a "super 1337 gamer" to be good at balancing (in fact, developers should be better at balancing than gamers, because they have to balance whereas gamers just have to identify whether an existing system is balanced or not).

    2Hawks1Anders:
    Bugs are again player found.

Bug finding falls on the developers just as much as on the players. Bugs exist because developers make mistakes, after all. Furthermore, while bug finding is often left to the players, bug fixing is strictly the responsibility of the developer. Considering how much the community complained about apparent bugs before the game actually released, you've have thought they'd have fixed those things before release.

Probably because people can't believe that a game like Halo Wars, which was an ok game if you ignore the disregard to the Halo story, got ranked 12th best Xbox 360 game ever. That Halo Wars would be ranked above Left 4 Dead, Rock Band 2, Modern Warfare 2, and all of the other games listed, is simply ridiculous. I mean, congrats to Robot Studios, but even they should realize that no one that actually knows a thing about gaming will take the list seriously.

    Re: Congratulations hw

My opinion on why HW was put in the top 25. You know how most RTS games are put on the computer, right? Ensemble Studios (Robot) was  the first to truly bring the RTS games to the Xbox 360. And thinking it was pretty darn good of a game after all...

    Re: Congratulations hw

But even Halo Wars was subpar as far as RTS games go. And even then, why not give them a low spot on the list, if its just because they did something that no one else has yet? Why put them in the top 15!

I think the IGN Reviewers disagree that it was sub par. They mention why they rated it so high in their article.

    Re: Congratulations hw

Didn't the makers of Command & Conquer do it before ES?  Yes.... I believe they did.  Oh but wait, ES used simply (retard easy) controls.  However, the controls and gameplay are too simple if you ask me.  Especially for an RTS, they didn't deserve 12th place, and IMO, they don't deserve a place on that list.

it deserves to be that high or higher.

halo wars is the most popular and successful rts on console in history thus it has to be considered one of the best games, thats one of the reasons geometry wars as high is it is the best arcade game.

    ... why?

I liked C&C3 more, Red Alert 2 + 3 were better, and BFME was also really nice.

All better than Halo Wars (in my opinion, but if you really like RTS's on the console, you'd like them too)

    Re: Congratulations hw

Let's have a look, shall we?

    Erik Brudvig:
    Ensemble Studios always delivered. Always.

We start out with clear signs of fanboyism. Not surprising, I suppose, as everyone's a fanboy of something, but let's hope this doesn't affect his review.

    Erik Brudvig:
Halo Wars is no exception. It isn't the deepest real-time strategy game on the block, and the campaign could have been more inspired, but that shouldn't be enough to deter anybody.

Shouldn't be enough to deter anybody? The game has shallow gameplay and a bland campaign, and that isn't a clear sign of subpar-ness?

    Erik Brudvig:
The spirit of Halo was successfully captured

I don't know. To successfully capture the Halo spirit, I'd have thought you'd need to actually pay attention to existing Halo media.

    Erik Brudvig:
and the multiplayer game is a blast.

I don't know. From what I can tell, multiplayer devolves to spamming units, because the rock-paper-scissors build was inherently flawed, with hard counters for units not actually countering them.

    Erik Brudvig:
Halo Wars quickly became one of my favorite online games and then grew into a several-months-long addiction.

Only several months? When I encounter a really good game, I play it for longer than a couple months. Hardly what I would call an addiction...

    Erik Brudvig:
Late night intense strategy sessions followed by bleary-eyed mornings were my entire life.

Spamming units is not really strategy... The game's interface doesn't even lend itself to strategy.

Erik Brudvig:I'm glad Ensemble Studios went out with a bang -- one last great set of memories – before Microsoft could shut them down.

I can't believe Microsoft shut down Ensemble Studios, but I definitely regret Halo Wars being the last memory we'll have of them.

    David Clayman:
Halo Wars may have benefited from its tie to an insanely popular franchise but it deserved every bit of attention it received.

Frankly, no game deserves all of the hype it gets, and Halo Wars was no exception.

    David Clayman:
Many have tried, and failed, to shoehorn an RTS onto the consoles, but Halo Wars' simplified gameplay structure was perfectly suited to a controller and the faster pace of an Xbox Live match.

And terribly suited to the RTS genre. They probably did better than the hard ports of EA, but the point stands that RTS games do not belong on console. Halo Wars has not changed my opinion of that.

    David Clayman:
I probably logged more hours into the multiplayer mode than any other game released this generation and I enjoyed every second.

Surprising, considering the options he had. He could have played a real RTS and probably had a more enjoyable experience. He could have even played a previous title by ES and had a more enjoyable experience.

David Clayman:Unfortunately this was the swan song of the acclaimed developer Ensemble, so it's possible that Halo Wars will be the only game of its kind.

If you aren't anticipating Microsoft milking another RTS out of Halo, then I question your qualifications as a game reviewer.

    David Clayman:MAC Blast!

Please don't remind me about that horribly innaccurate feature...MAC blast indeed.

Aloysius:I think the IGN Reviewers disagree that it was sub par. They mention why they rated it so high in their article.

Overall, I see evidence of Halo Wars being an ok game, to be sure, but I see no evidence in the reviews that show why it warranted such a high place on the list.

What I never got about the whole thing was that the offenders didn't use [img] tags, they used HTML. [img] tags had nothing to do with it.

I'm not paranoid, we had to make a code change to disable signatures because people were abusing them. We either had sigs on or off completely, and I wanted you guys to still have text signatures, so we had to make a code change for that. Code changes for the forums take a good bit of time, so it's not a trivial change to make.

And as for everyone disagreeing with the IGN people, that's fine. That's their opinion and you have yours. I think I side more with the IGN people personally.
