gnosisistic:quote too bit to put it all inside XD
ok , first of all, i know im not the ultimate genius in RTS games. the post is half complete, because putting inside so much stuff would be way too long. ive been playing SC since it came out and yes it is big news .
people who play with unlimited resources are total noobs, or what people call "builders" and "techies", and thats what youre talking about. rushers dont need unlimited resources because they end up the match before they can even deplete their vespene gas. Yellow is not a builder, right? thats the kind of people im talking about. rushers are mainly zerg players who like to send a zergling attack as soon as soon as they can to own builders and choke the enemy. i know not only zerg players are like that but the best unit to do such attack is the zergling. a common tactic on zerg players is to do a corsair rush on enemy overlords. not-rushers is everyone else, regardless of their strategy. starcraft holds a great balance for rushers, because in other games, constant attacking just blows out the enemy, while in starcraft players are able to hold up and build their strengths.
a good example of a builder is Reach. its true Reach would do some fast attacks, but its very rare to see that before he has a proper defense. see what im talking about? this is trying to simplify it as much as i can. in a match between yellow and reach, (never actually saw one if there is) my bet is reach would hold up the first 3 attacks from yellow while building inside his base, and after a well places psionc storm counter with much more upgraded firepower to Yellows weaker points, if he has any. who would win, dunno. i like Reach's style.
as for micro and macro control, i didnt want to get into it because there arent many rts players around considering halo is an FPS, so that would be wasting time. what i can talk about here is physics. there is also a post by me around this forums about micro and macro. but i wont search for it and post it on another thread again.
what i referring about in the "give and take" idea is the fact that there is no superior unit. if you are careless, you might own infantry with siege tanks, but then get humiliated by air forces, where a good infantry would have helped you. starcraft is a game where single-unit attacks are useless, if your enemy has a very versatile army. every single strategy can be properly countered and that is where the true capacity of the player comes out to shine. achieving real dominance through precise control is what made Boxer a really good player, or were his immortal marines just a coincidence?
as for the race analysis, im again talking about the cost/numbers/firepower relationship, and let me give a more detailed example. Covies: relatively Cheap Units, large numbers, relatively lower firepower compared to their human opponents on the Halo universe. Human counterparts are fewer in numbers, cost a lot more, but are superior in combat. Compare now a zergling vs a zealot. see my point? Saying that "because this aliens have plasma shields and those have plasma shields too they are the same thing" (Protoss and Covies) or "this guys are ugly aliens, those are ugly aliens too, then they would be the same thing" (Zerg and Flood) and "This guys are humans and those guys are humans so yeah they're the same thing" (UNSC and Terran) is completely wrong. there are major similarities between UNSC and protoss, the two biggest being they both got their home planet attacked and being very few of them around. or can you get as many zealots out as zerglings? and the UNSC army isnt as big as the Covie one, right? whatever you think is wrong, i dont know what it is but im surely interested in your opinion. its fun to listen to ther peoples ideas.
as for never playing starcraft, again, i have played it for all this years, and considering my age, guess what? it was also the first game i ever played. in fact, i play it on a weekly basis, cuz you know, college work and stuff, i dont have much time left. judging peoples experience like that through a unreleased game forums is just plain stupid.
oh, and about baseball, why not ask cuba, dominican republic, puerto rico, mexico or venezuela? after all, those third world countries ended up higher than US in the world baseball classic, didnt they? so why would i want to learn an 8th place baseball? theirs appears to be better.
right now im bored and tired and just came out of an exam so i hope you understand the whole text. if you do not, snot my problem, usually the rest of the members here get my point without trying to show off how good they are. after all, im trying my best to make it so everyone can get it in a simple way.
this post is again half complete, so there is further discussion about it, (im just too lazy), have fun and dont spam!
