Its not that they care about the species, if you read the fan-fic Covenants Lies youll realise that the elite that orders for his body to be retrieved because he feels guilty because he sent that grunt thats been through everything into the arks control room to stop truth. He wanted that grunts body so he could be remembered as the only grunt to do such a huge task.
