Modern nukes aren't even the one with the largest blast, go back to the cold war and look up the Russian TSAR Bomba, it had a yield of over 50,000 megatonnes.

And a bomb like that would be why it would be unwise to have them.

i don't know, by the depiction of nukes in the books, they don't seem to be all that destructive compared to other covenant weapons. if we're talking about ship to ship combat (if it exists) then there definitely should be nukes. other wise, it probably wouldn't fit.

Yeah, space relieves nukes of some of their punch, no emp, fallout isn't a factor, no buildings and people to destroy, sheilded enemy,

That's why I wouldn't have a problem with them there. The UNSC use them freqeuntly in ship to ship engagements in the books. It's on the ground you need to take these into acount.

Just look at the NOVA, their most powerful nuke, If you had access to that you wouldn't just kill yourself, but the entire planet, and any ships overhead.

Just look what happened to Joyous exhaultation.

    Re: Nuke

Ok.  Some people obviously don't know what a nuke is.  The smallest nuke we have today let alone in 500 years would decimate an entire HW map.  If thats fair, the covenant r !@#$ed.

    Re: Nuke

Let's just say a covenant fleet was above the planet, one of the ships had one on board. It detonated, destroying the entire fleet in seconds. It then vapourised a quarter of the world, shattered the nearby moon.

It also caused massive shockwaves that leveled most of the cities on the planet.

Finally the explosion caused 300mph winds which leveled the remaining cities and massive tidal waves that destroyed the coastline.

So basically you wouldn't one of those going off in your backyard.

     Frog,

The smallest nuke we have today is the size of a suitcase and would barely destroy a small small town.

The U.S's largest nuke barely tops out ata 50 megatonne yeild most U.S nukes are between 10-25 megatonne in yeild. Most nukes today are tactical, focusing on destroying enemy nukes or sometimes cities, not entire small countries

    Re: Nuke

Nukes es muy necessito.  Seriously, all the UNSC has is missles though, mac, orbital strike, nukes, nova, where are the krazy kool vehicles like the scarab?

I think that the nuke should actualy be left out, except maby as a special one time thing from a shortsword or something.

If a quarter of planet was destroyed, than what's left to kill on it's surface?, those guys just experienced Armegeddon

Which is why it shouldn't be included as every one on the map would die in 3 seconds. Completely unfair.

Luckily it was a prototype in 2552 so it cannot be in the game canonily

    Re: Nuke

They have nukes today that are only powerful enough to take out large buildings. You could just upgrade regular sabotage bombs to mini nukes. Since they are technically nukes the fallout would keep your enemies from rebuilding in that spot.
