I'd have to rule in favor for the Elites.
1. Considering that when you put up the average Elite vs ODSTs. I agree that it is a difficult match up. When the battalion of elites is offered to the perspective person, will they be able to specify what rank the elites are?
2. Alot of the ground engagements that went on had the grunts/jackals fighting most of the time for the ground engagements. It was later in the war at the fall of Reach when the Elites actually came into play. Similar to the Drones.
3. Elites beat ODST's in just about every way. Technology, training, experience, hell, also just pure stubborness. I believe there was a quote stating that an Elite depleted from his weapon, would rather fight to the death then touch a full loaded assault rifle at their feet.
4. Dying in battle is fine for Elites. ODSTs.....*** and moan when they get shot. "Oh god! It hurts....." How was Romeo after he got rammed in the chest with a grav hammer? In the Cole Protocol, Jora, one of the Elites under Thel barreled head long into the fire of twenty marines and it only wounded him.
5. And technically putting the Elite vs and ODST is putting a ninja vs a samurai. Eventually the samurai will blink and boom, he's dead.
Now.....to clear some of this up. Matching the Master Chief against any of the covenant according to Bungie will ALWAYS end in a win for Master Chief. It is the equilivant of having an action movie with a main character, and the lowly grunt guy with an annoying laugh will end the movie for the main character. It doesn't work that ahhh, the minor character will kill the main character. Everything is skewed from the point of whoever you are playing at that time. The ODSTs worked in Halo3 ODST, because the player is playing one of the ODSTs.
