    Re: How Many Spartans???

If you need the correct numbers here they are:

After augmentation there were offically 33 Spartans including Spartan 117 (John)

After getting into their signiture armor codename MJOLNIR Sam (Spartan 034) dies saving the UNSC Frigate Commonwealth. He is the first offical casualty of the Spartan 2 program.

During the battle for REACH Spartans 117 (John), 058 (Linda) and James (Spartan Number Unknown) board a UNSC space station to secure a nav database during which James is killed and Linda is wounded and technicly dead but put into cryogenic suspension for later resesitation. Meanwhile Spartan 104 (Fred) takes the majority of the Spartan group (22 Spartans total) down to REACH to protect the Super MAC reactors. They fail. All are assumed killed. The status of Grey team is still unknown. Grey team consists of 3 Spartans. Spartan Randall (Number Unknown) is MIA but assumed alive per ONI Section 2 Directive 930). There is one Spartan who was to badly injured to continue fighting. I am currently unaware of that individuals name or number. This Spartan is currently retired. Other details are unknown to me. Take note that this retired Spartan will not be included in my total at the end of this post due to the fact that they are not in active military service nor a active member of the Spartan unit.

During Halo Combate Evolved: Spartan 117 fights his way through Halo and eventually destroys it. Excaping he finds Spartan 058 (Linda) still in her cryo pod. He picks her up along with 2 marines, 1 navy pilot and a ONI leutenant. They make their way back to REACH to find Spartans 104 (Fred), 087 (Kelly), 043 (Will), 044 (Anton), 093 (Grace), 008 (Li). In a series of battles after that rescue Spartans 044, 093 and 008 are killed. Over 500 Covenant warships are distroyed.

After the events in Halo 2 and during the events of Halo 3: The Spartan 3 program is reveild in the book Ghosts of Onyx. Hundreds of Spartan 3's have already died in the war. Only 2 remain from Beta Company. Spartans B292 (Tom) and B091 (Lucy). As the Gamma Company of Spartan 3's nears its end of training they are attacked by sentinals. Spartan 2 Kurt (#051) and Chief Petty Officer Mendez along with the only remaining active squad of Gamma Company (Team Saber) and the remaining Spartans of Beta Company join up with Spartans 104 (Fred), 087 (Kelly), 058 (Linda) and 043 (Will). In the final battle in this book Spartans 043 (Will), 051 (Kurt), G188 (Dante) and G003 (Holly) die. But only after making sure that the rest of the Spartans including a full squad of Spartan 3's (they operate in squads of 5) that were placed in a Slipspace field.

In the following I list the surviving Spartans and Spartan 3s:

    Spartan 2s:

    Spartan 117 (John)

    Spartan 104 (Fred)

    Spartan 087 (Kelly)

    Spartan 058 (Linda)

Spartan Grey team (3 members total)

    Spartan (Number Unknown) (Randall)

    Total Spartan 2s surviving: 8

     Spartan 3s:

    Spartan B292 (Tom)

    Spartan B091 (Lucy)

    Spartan G099 (Ash)

    Spartan (Number Unknown) (Mark)

    Spartan (Number Unknown) (Olivia)

The Spartans of team Katana (5 members in all)

    Total Spartan 3s surviving: 10

Total number of Spartans Surviving in and out of slipspace: 18

I hope that answers any questions.

Nice, but you forgot Maria-062. Cassandra is also a possibility.

    Re: How Many Spartans???

I didnt forget her. I just couldnt remember her name or number at the time. Like I stated in my first post there is one Spartan who is retired from military life. That refers to Maria. I dont include her in the count of Spartans because she is nolonger active in the armed forces.

""Assembled here tonight," she said, "are all surviving Spartans save three, who are otherwise engaged on fields of combat too distant to be easily recalled. In the last decade of combat there have only been three KIAs and one Spartan too wounded to continue active duty. You are to be commended for having the best operational record of any unit in the fleet." She paused to look at them. "It is very good to see you all again.""

Quote from Halo: The Fall of REACH, page 240 6th paragraph.

As you all know there were 33 total Spartan-IIs. Assuming that this text is completely correct within the timeline that leaves only 29 possable Spartans to be at the battle of REACH. Three of those Spartans aren't there due to the fact that they are Grey team and are unable to be recalled. That leaves us with only 26 Spartans now. One Spartan (Randall) is MIA (date of MIA is 2532) but is assumed alive so now our total for the battle of REACH  is down to 25 Spartans. Spartan 117 (John) takes two other Spartans with him to secure the nav data from the Corvette Circumference, those are Spartan 058 (Linda) and Spartan James (Number Unknown). That leaves only 22 Spartans to defend the reactors on REACH.

Dealing with Cassandra, she is not a confermed Spartan unless I missed some info. That is always a possablity. But even in the event that she is an actual surviving member of the Spartan-I progject she would be atleast 59 years old when the Spartan-II program first saw action. That is assumed due to the fact that in my opinion a seasoned soldier who inlists at the age of 18 would have atleast 7 years of combat experiance before even being considered for the Spartan-I program. And since the only info of her talking to Spartan 117 (John) dates back to when Spartan 117 (John) destroyed the original Halo ring, I can only conclude that her age is somewhere in the mid to upper 80's (only due to the fact that she has no offical birth date. With the ending of the book Halo: Ghosts of Onyx the time that is listed for the last entry is 1100 Hours, November 4, 2552. That date so far is the last known date that has been recorded in the books dealing with Spartans. It also conferms my guess at Cassandra's age if my assumtion of her enlistment and acceptance into the Spartan-I program is correct.

I hope that clears up the matters between that Spartan and the unknown Cassandra.

And I am sorry that this is an old topic and that its on the tenth page but I found it interesting.
