There is no "International law" thats why when your in International waters nothing you can do is illegal.... Whaling is with in their rights, and the fact they are putting animals close to being on the international endangered species list, but its not like Americans haven't done the same things to other animals, look at poachers in all countries, just because a few people from one country do something you think is wrong (right and wrong are only opinions based on the point of view). If I (And most of the world) feel its wrong to invade a country with no real reason, and I go and throw stink bombs at the american soldiers, they are going to shoot me. Not spray some pepper spray at me but shoot me... and say they thought it was a real bomb. They will get away with it.
Pearl harbor was ordered by a corrupt government that has since been abolished, if a corrupt president or general entered the white house and ordered soldiers to bomb euro unprovoked they would do it as they are soldiers and follow orders not make decisions.
Nanking wasn't unprovoked.... the Chinese people had been terrorizing the Japanese people for years before this, thats the entire reason they attacked china and got involved in WWII. Chinese had raped and killed hundreds of Japanese citizens before this (both Chinese pirates and soldiers) while the Chinese government took the few raw resources Japan had. A lot of soldiers would have felt it as a revenge.... besides Nanking wasn't even been proven...
Now the persecution of Japanese Americans during WWII, that was Illegal as their rights have been taken away... they were treated almost as badly as Hitler treated the Jews... that was justified right? The dropping of not one but two atomic bombs on innocent cities... not even military bases... but civilian residences... but american history classes like to leave that out of the text books or at least downplay it.

whaling is a major part of the lively hood and the small amount of natural resources that japan has, but guess what... Whale is hardly eaten in Japan they sell it to other countries... countries like the USA Brittan, France and most of Asia.
should people who are just doing a job be attacked because thats the only way to feed their family without being a criminal? if those people would to lose their job 90% would most likely kill themselves because they can no longer support their family's

If you look at the blue-fin tuna, its almost extinct and its eaten by a lot of Japanese and they eat 1/3 of the world tuna every year but it isn't native to Japanese waters its being hunted to endangerment by other countries. you say if it was humane you would step aside, but we don't kill the cows we eat humanely, they are electrocuted slowly to death... some chickens are too...
