Plasma: A viable tech for weaponry?

You, know, plasma is the main source for almost all of Covenant weaponry. And it seems that has a velocity of some sort. Problem is, that plasma is a gas. Gases don't travel in a vector; they disperse into the atmosphere. Please answer with the best possible answer...I don't want to see "idk" answers.

maybe they use it to super heat some sort of blue gel like substance and it is never actually plasma that fires, but gel

Well then, what are the means of propulsion? It would be kind of hard to shoot out a gel that quickly (Plasma rifle shots) and accurately. It actually sounds more like a capsule that melts on impact, releasing the plasma inside.

    ....

No, plasma is not a gas.

There are four substances in the universe.

    Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Plasma.

    Plasma is its own substance.

It's not gas or liquid or solid--it's just plasma.

How is the General rank fair again?

    it is an ionized gas

Re: Plasma: A viable tech for weaponry?

Plasma is created when a gas' electrons become overly excited, giving it a new property. It may seem gaseous but it's not gas. Plasma could easily be contained/propelled by magnetism. And at high velocities.

Re: Plasma: A viable tech for weaponry?

It's plasma and it's guided by an electromagnetic field generated by the weapon.

Re: Plasma: A viable tech for weaponry?

In physics and chemistry, plasma is a partially ionized gas, in which a certain proportion of electrons are free rather than being bound to an atom or molecule. The ability of the positive and negative charges to move somewhat independently makes the plasma electrically conductive so that it responds strongly to electromagnetic fields. Plasma therefore has properties quite unlike those of solids, liquids, or gases and is considered to be a distinct state of matter. Plasma typically takes the form of neutral gas-like clouds, as seen, for example, in the case of stars. Like gas, plasma does not have a definite shape or a definite volume unless enclosed in a container; unlike gas, in the influence of a magnetic field, it may form structures such as filaments, beams and double layers (see section 3, below).

Plasma was first identified in a Crookes tube, and so described by Sir William Crookes in 1879 (he called it "radiant matter").[1] The nature of the Crookes tube "cathode ray" matter was subsequently identified by British physicist Sir J.J. Thomson in 1897,[2] and dubbed "plasma" by Irving Langmuir in 1928,[3] perhaps because it reminded him of a blood plasma.[4] Langmuir wrote:

Except near the electrodes, where there are sheaths containing very few electrons, the ionized gas contains ions and electrons in about equal numbers so that the resultant space charge is very small. We shall use the name plasma to describe this region containing balanced charges of ions and electrons.[3]

Also, if we use the sun as a weapon then we use plasma as a weapon.

problem with plasma is collateral damage. you miss with a bullet it will hit a wall or the ground fairly quickly and not do much damage. but plasma with do a lot of damage to structures that you might not want destroyed.

That's why you would use a carbine.

what does the carbine shoot exactly. i never thought about that
